Believe In Love

A jaded heart

One that's been torn apart

Too many times to count

For the tears shed, there's no known amount

A wall built sky high

To keep out every lie

Love is people's foolish notions

Why bother going through the motions

You meet someone

They promise you the stars, the moon, the sun

Things seem to go well for awhile

They even convince you to walk down the aisle

Then with a mighty…

The Great Gourd Giveaway ~ Gourd # 1

I shocked myself when I read the date on my last blog post in my Blogger Blog: Plants, Paint, Glue, and Jigsaws; February 2012! Whoa! 11 months slipped by without me writing one sentence for my blog. In my defense to myself about myself  I was not slacking off and snoozing overtime! The months flew by unnoticed as I drew and burned…

What Is To Come

Looking ahead

The light is brilliant

My future is bright

Brighter than it's been in a long time

Hope is alive in my heart

One step in front of the other

Doing what I can each day

To accomplish my goals

Dreaming big

Ready to make those dreams come true

Shards of an old life try to cut me

Slice my chest wide open

But their once sharp edges

Have grown soft

They feel feathery and…

One moment of 2012 into eternity and one moment from 2012 complete amnesia about

One moment of 2012 that I will cherish and keep in my heart

Christmas with my son after missing five Christmas' apart.

One moment of 2012 I would like to forget

December 14th, Sandy Hook Elementary, a day of eternal regret.

Funny thing about memories of the heart

Some bring smiles while others hurt like a flaming dart.

As time and years pass by

Each is filled with reasons to laugh and cry.

Peace and love wished by us all

Some…

THE COMPLEXITY OF CREATIVITY

I have always been fascinated by creative people.  Are some folks just born creative?  Is it an inherited trait?  Can we learn to be creative?  Does it really come down to right brain versus left brain?  I have read extensively, about the creative mind… about creative people… I still do not understand the how and why of it all. …

A Future Unwritten

Chestnut curls and a cute button nose

Just like hers

Brilliant hazel eyes and dimples

Just like yours

I can hear her angelic voice

She puts her tiny hand in mine

Smiles and my heart melts

"Grandma", she squeals in delight

There's nothing I wouldn't do for her

Just as I feel the same about you

She sits in my lap

And I read her her favorite story

I remember when you were this…

The Woman I Once Knew

When I was little

You were so strong

So capable of doing anything

How I admired you

I remember our trips to the store

The candy you'd buy me if I was good

The garage sales and trips to the library

So many books, scattered throughout the house

I loved talking to you

And laying by you

Watching PBS or perhaps Murder She Wrote

Listening to your laughter

You have always been full of…

Marked By Love

Sometimes I look at my stomach

I see the marks left upon it

Ten years they've been there now

Some think they're hideous

Even I have thought so a time or two

I remember a time before they were there

The smooth skin, being a size one

No real sense of resposibility

Could come and go as I pleased

How life has changed

Over the years

I have come to cherish these marks

Each one symbolizes the love…

Are You With Me?

Staring through the hourglass of time

Looking at the past

No longer wishing to change things

Accepting what was

Both the good and the bad

Once upon a time

I wished I could rewrite my past

Change things that I did

Take back things I'd said

Not know some that I had

What has been written

Can not be taken back

The ink has dried

The chapters are closed

There's just no going…

For You Are Love

There he lay

Upon the hay

The world's burdens upon his head

That is what the angels said

Born to save us from our fate

We must all remember the date

It all started with that cold December day

When He alone paved the way

Thank you, Lord

For paying the price we couldn't afford

Thak you for loving us

For doing this without a fuss

I love you with every part of me

My heart was…

Dear Santa

-Dear Santa-

There are a lot of things that I could ask you for

An ipod, new computer, clothes, and so much more

Dreaming of sparkly things

Like necklaces and pretty rings

But thinking about the world today

I decided I had something else to say

Please, could you give us hope, perspective, and peace?

No more hate, fighting, or disease please!

Heal the sick children and let them come home

Let the lost…

Something I wrote for Doug

I didn't need anyone

To hold me at night

To take my hand

And tell me things would be alright

Marching to my own beat

Following my dreams

Stumbling, but always making it

So fellas, take a seat

I've been a woman scorned

Trusting all the wrong ones

Wandering down a broken road

So many failed loves I mourned

But then things changed one day

That smile knocked me off my…

Ellis Paul and Peyton Tochterman at Eddie's Attic 11/24/2012

We arrived early, and Tommy K was setting up the merch.  He opened Ellis' suitcase filled with a jumbel of CDs.  As we lhelped sort the CDs into piles, we joked aobut putting the toothbrush and socks that were also in the suitcase on eBay.

This was the 5th or 6th time I have seen Peyton perform, and damn if he doesn't just keep getting better.…

Just a little passage from my 2nd book as yet unnamed.

Paris lives.  Paris is viscerally and palpably alive.  It is loved, and carefully tended.  Parisians are proud people and they have every right to be as their city is a jewel to be admired and fully experienced.  It seemed a lifetime ago that Allan, her former boss, instructed Lindsey to find an apartment near the Eiffel Tower.  He was unaware that Lindsey had already…

October-Build up to a kiss (two in one lol)

One of the best experiences in the month of October happened to me this year. What led up to the greatest October of my existence began this summer. I guess it actually began in January. But the heart of this story began in August and that is where I will start.

I had known Doug since January, but until summer arrived, we'd barely talked. There was actually a period of time when none of us saw him for awhile. But, when he reappeared in our lives, things began to change. He…

Thanksgiving 2012

'Thanksgiving'

The onion tears mixed with the aroma of sage in mama's steamy November kitchen is a memory I'll take with me wherever I go. Grandmas, aunts, cousins, uncles crowding the house in a good way. Football games on in the living room, hunters on the patio talking guns, deer and quail in the cool, fresh air.

We often traded Thanksgiving among families. Oklahoma City one year, Cushing the next. Perry next time around. Later…

In Celebration of Halloween & A Book Release

I was not long out of law school when Bob Dylan announced he would play the Old Lady on Brady (the Tulsa Brady Theater) in 2009. Thanks to our folks, my sisters and I grew up on a steady Dylan diet. As I matured and began to view his lyrics through the lens of my own life experience, I became more and more obsessed. Divorced and maybe a little bitter at the…

A continuing meander through the renovations at boBKat's Acre

To give an idea of our progress, I'm trying to post enough photographs of the various stages to really show the extent of our commitment to this project.  As you can see from this shot, the kitchen and dining room are our main focus.  We've taken out a hallway to expand the dining room and closed off 2 doorways and opened up a 6 foot arch in the wall between the former doorways. We also took out a stub wall in the kitchen and the resulting space change has transfigured these two rooms…

boBKat's Acre, a photographic meander

So, friends and neighbors!  I am adventuring in the land of old home renovation and I'm here to tell you that the 'venturin' is extreme at times and always interesting.  I will try to add a few photos every few days or so, but please bear with me as I am still attempting to complete some very essential projects before cold weather sets in.  I may mispost some photos 'cause I'm still a…
