Guys & Dolls

all of that have been there front & center the last few days.

We all, men & women, have been hurt by someone...by someone we

dated, were married to, were friends with, our own family even....and

in the heat of the moment, it is so easy to say things like: MEN SUCK

or WOMEN SUCK! (along with other things lol) But you know, I have come

to realize it's not just one or the…

My book Collider in paperback

The paperback version of my book Collider is now out on booksellers' websites for pre-order. I'm really pleased with the colorful new cover. I wrote a brand new preface for the book, updating readers about what has been happening with the Large Hadron Collider, the largest particle-smasher in the world, since 2009.

Collider in paperback…

Your Kid's Ear

Your Kid's Ear

I was one of those booked baby-sitters on the block when I was a young teenager. And although the kids were fun, and making money was new and exciting, the real thrill for me was that I was allowed to use the phone as much as I wanted after the kids went to bed. Imagine that. Saturday night was…

Message to the Future

Smashed glass, plastic bottles near decomposed,

aluminum cans bearing the words Pabst Blue Ribbon,

Coca-cola, Sprite, Mountain Dew,

Styrofoam scraps, once burger-holding boxes,

shreds of black bags, clinging to branches like ravens,

graffiti in bulbous script on rock walls...

some day these will be our potshards

and our petroglyphs,

our mementoes to be found by archeologists,

our culture's messages to the future:

Hello!…

Lizardlike, I bask;
Soaking up bright energy.
Energizing me.

Before I begin, let me say I’ve missed you guys! Wait, I’ve missed y’all. That sounds right.

Now that summer is here, I hope you’re able to kick back, splash in a river, listen to some music, or just read a good book.

Speaking of books, I did manage to finish that second… Continue

The weekend

Like a distant memory

It was brief, but fun

My son and I went to a wedding on Friday, it was beautiful. God was smiling down on us, for the rain stopped in time for the decorations to be set up and it stayed dry for the ceremony. :) The reception was busy, busy, busy and I enjoyed every moment of it. The drive home was long and the car ride scared me because the car…

A Muggy Night, A Sister, and a Guy Named James Taylor

It’s a steamy night in Eastern Pennsylvania where I grew up and still call home. I just turned on the TV, and immediately a piece of pure joy popped up. James Taylor and Carole King are singing Sweet Baby James together. It put me in mind of another hot and steamy night many years ago when my sister and I actually went somewhere together.

This sister is about a decade older than I am, so we didn’t officially grow up together. We… Continue

Did You Ever See A Minnow? copyright 2010 by Rick Reiley

Did you ever see a minnow

Skate across a pond?

Wearing an overcoat and hat

With his mittens on?

Did you ever see a minnow

Roast weenies on the fire?

Sweet Summer Raindrops

On my nose and toes they are

Oh how they tickle

I don't know, that just came to mind...all this talk of rain and then today it did rain and I was soaked while bringing in the groceries today. But, after the humid days we've had so far; the rain felt nice. So here's my little haiku.…
