'Summer Already?'

Christmas Eve, New Year's Day, June first.....wait a minute....what happened?

Gets more noticeable every year. Time has a way of slipping up on even the best prepared among us.

Now, today, we have the whole summer ahead of us. And before we know it...Halloween, New Year's Eve all over again.

Where did summer go? Where did winter go? What happened to my life? Where are all those people I used to know? What happened to
those things on my 'bucket list'? (You know, those special things
you'd really like to do before you kick the bucket?)

My advice is to live dangerously. Life is dangerous anyway and Hank Williams' point has been proven that none of us 'get out of this
world alive'. Why not take the risks you've always wanted to take but
just felt too silly or responsible to try?

The things you want to do may not be too risky at all but perhaps a bit out of your comfort zone. My wife wanted to retrace the steps
of the 1850's travelers across the plains to the west coast, the
Oregon Trail I think it's called. She and I both wanted to take a
train ride through Colorado to New Mexico but couldn't seem to find
the time. Never did. We always wanted to go to Ireland too, my home
country. But we never did that either. There was always someplace
else the money and time needed to go. Believe me, a headstone
will be nice but it's no substitute for having lived.

I can tell you now if we had taken those trips we would never have regretted it, not for a minute. One more smile, one more laugh, one
more fun memory would have been a treasure beyond words. It's been
said that in the end your biggest regrets will most likely be those
things you didn't do, not the things you've done. And I think that
will hold true for me too. But I'm working on it now.

Most of us are decent responsible folks who are cautiously conservative with our lives. And that's no doubt as it should be. But
we need to throw caution to the wind once in a while and do something
'dangerous'. Like a train ride, a horseback ride, a visit to long
lost relatives, a mountain climb, a parachute jump, or maybe learn to
play the banjo. The New Testament verse springs to mind here. Matthew
6:34 (NIV): 'Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will
worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.'

Enjoy the summer folks. And remember there are only 175 shopping days 'til Christmas.

all the great wisdom of the world reminds us to live each day for itself, one at a time. and this is truly a simple and yet profound thing to do. we are not promised tomorrow. and we should live like we are making memories. not live to just get to the finish line. i agree wholeheartedly that we should live a bit dangerously, rick. safety is overrated. i'm not great at this. i tend towards fear in alot of things. but all the good things in my life have been made up of the "odd moments". and all the things i didn't do with the loved ones who passed are true regrets. thanks for this post!!! excellent!
