Wiffledust Loves Tom Prasada-Rao ...and always will.

If you’ll indulge me, I’d like to say a few words about Tom Prasada-Rao while he’s still with us. That sounds dire, but while I believe in all kinds of miracles, Tom has told us that his days may be numbered due to cancer….I’ll go with whatever Tom says since I know…

A Gift Left by Tom Ryan

Our loved wiffle member Tom Ryan passed away last night. It's terribly sad. But in the sadness,  our other loved member D'Jeanne Newberry Duncan found a gift. She had posted something to fb that inspired Tom to quickly write a song. D'J and I discussed it and felt we should share his email and lyrics. Godspeed, Tom. We love you and thank you for sharing yourself with the world! It's called "Potential".

hey d'jeanne,

I guess this falls under the category of "be…

"In Flanders Fields the Poppies Blow..."

My father was not a poet and not the type to go around quoting poetry. But for some reason, every Memorial Day he would recite this poem from memory. He was born just after World War I ended, and he was a  World War II Vet himself. He never said why he liked or recited this poem, but he used to always bring me a Poppy on Memorial Day that he got from his VFW post. So, I just thought I'd post it up, in order  that we could all remember the enormous amount of sacrifice that has been put forth…

"Good Friday" by Christina Rosetti

“GOOD FRIDAY” – by Christina G. Rossetti

Am I a stone, and not a sheep,

That I can stand, O Christ, beneath Thy cross,

To number drop by drop Thy Blood’s slow loss,

And yet not weep?

Not so those women loved

Who with exceeding grief lamented Thee;

Not so fallen Peter weeping bitterly;…

summer mourner

autumn audaciously sachets its big rustley skirts of leafdom all around my home

in september the rehearsals begin

in october the orchestra files in

then suddenly the daylight dims

and the leafy chorus girls begin their can can in the wind

i prefer the corner window seat for this show

where i tuck my legs up under me just so

i can lean to the right and free my left hand

with which i color…

Things Are Too Damn Big

Things are too damn big.

Let’s start with banks. I’ve been ranting about them lately. Let’s beat up on them some more. They are huge. They own EVERYONE’s mortgage and many small countries. They also own several pieces of real estate in every shopping center. Everyone who complains about the size of government seems to like the size of…

The Mortgage Fraud Scandal is the Biggest in Human History by L. Randall Wray, a Professor of Economics at the University of Missouri

This foreclosure scandal is a difficult topic to understand. Therefore, it is very easy for those in power with alot of money to keep information hidden. I feel strongly that creative minds are open minds, and in that spirit I am reposting this article. It is just that important. This issue impacts every single American, because it is about the law. Your conclusion is up to you,but please stay well informed. Thank you. …

Doom Plumes by Susan Herrick

Susan Herrick is a singer songwriter who has performed at Wiffledust, and someone I respect immensely. We were talking about the gulf this morning, and she spontaneously wrote this....I think it's brilliant and asked her if I could repost it. She said yes. Here it is:

doom plumes

still VAROOM

underneath the sea -

earth's womb

methane, carbons…

Bob Fosse Moon

bob fosse moon

every so often, like clock work

there’s a big light in the sky

a spotlight, clock light in the sky

as if bob fosse put it up real high

just high enough

to shed just light enough

for you and i

to begin

from opposite sides of the stage

we enter sometimes aligned and sometimes enraged

but surely…

Julie, Julia, Love, Creativity, and Butter

Julie, Julia, Love, Creativity, and Butter

I know that I’m the last person in America to see the movie “Julie and Julia”, but I finally saw it today. And I haven’t been this happy about a movie in a long time. I just had to talk about it.

It is so rare to see a movie that tells the story of real people, but it seems that women are particularly stereotyped… Continue

50th Birthday of "To Kill a Mockingbird", Creativity, and Self Judgment...

It seems that a bunch of us on Facebook this morning were watching the same segment of CBS Sunday morning. They did a piece on the 50th Birthday of “To Kill A Mockingbird”, Harper Lee’s truly great American novel. What stuck with me most was the fact that Harper Lee not only… Continue

Your Kid's Ear

Your Kid's Ear

I was one of those booked baby-sitters on the block when I was a young teenager. And although the kids were fun, and making money was new and exciting, the real thrill for me was that I was allowed to use the phone as much as I wanted after the kids went to bed. Imagine that. Saturday night was…

A Muggy Night, A Sister, and a Guy Named James Taylor

It’s a steamy night in Eastern Pennsylvania where I grew up and still call home. I just turned on the TV, and immediately a piece of pure joy popped up. James Taylor and Carole King are singing Sweet Baby James together. It put me in mind of another hot and steamy night many years ago when my sister and I actually went somewhere together.

This sister is about a decade older than I am, so we didn’t officially grow up together. We… Continue

Anne Frank, Neighbors, and Memories...

I just watched “The Diary of Anne Frank” on PBS. I found myself in a bit of a teary puddle afterwards, and a memory came to me.

When I was a very little girl, our next door neighbor lived only a driveway’s width away from our house. A whole family lived there, but the person I remember most was named Joanne. I didn’t know her well, but she played a role in our home.

Our house… Continue

What's Really Wrong With America

What’s Really Wrong With America

There’s alot wrong with America these days, but almost all our beloved country’s ills lie in one place. The house. The American house is simply too big. Hear me out.

I’ve been in alot of houses in my day. Houses were my thing for years during my “I wanna be an architect” phase. I dragged my poor father to every open house… Continue
