Anne Frank, Neighbors, and Memories...

I just watched “The Diary of Anne Frank” on PBS. I found myself in a bit of a teary puddle afterwards, and a memory came to me.

When I was a very little girl, our next door neighbor lived only a driveway’s width away from our house. A whole family lived there, but the person I remember most was named Joanne. I didn’t know her well, but she played a role in our home.

Our house… Continue

The fan

I think I may have told this story here, but since I'm doing a series on paranormal experiences, I am sharing it again. This was one of the more memorable experiences in my life so far.

One night I was in bed watching TV, my wife and kids were asleep. All of a sudden I heard the vent fan turn…

Old Lyric- Empower Me Jesus

Written a few years ago when faced with a simple task for which I felt ill suited to carry out. It served and continues to serve it's purpose.

'Empower Me Jesus'

(intro)

Be kind, be merciful

Feed bodies and souls

Don't fear the madness

That sometimes takes hold

The greatest power you'll know

Grows from within

When you open your heart

And let Him come in.

Empower me Jesus

Embolden me Jesus

Lift me up… Continue

Things that go bump in the night - part 1

My next paranormal story happened just a few months ago. While we were living in Branson, MO we decided to go on the local "ghost tour of haunted Branson". I wasn't expecting much. I've been on haunted tours before, they've all been basically the same thing. Someone walks you around telling you ghost stories of this house, that old park, etc. There are always people who have been on the tour who have seen things. On a tour in Wilmington, NC we were even greeted at the door of a house. The owner… Continue

I wait. You don't come.
I go. You go somewhere else.
Is that a friendship?

The truth is out there.

My last blog post was about one of the most memorable paranormal experiences I've had. The experience I'm sharing now happened in the same house, but it's totally different. The house has been known to have strange things happen. You could hear the front door open and close, and sometimes hear footsteps but no one was there. Or you could hear the trashcan lid open and close in the kitchen when the room was seemingly unoccupied. This story goes into a different realm, the realm of… Continue

My American Journey installment 16

I thought I might stop at the La Posada Hotel in Winslow, Arizona to eat. It's a fully restored Fred Harvey hotel, harking back to the thirties in every way. But alas, I didn't feel like stopping there either. On to Flagstaff, and over the mountains to Seligman, a tiny town where they advertise the birth of Route 66. My youngest son Sam and I broke down there once, years ago, on the way back to California from Bluewater Lake. Ended up spending several days while the Aerostar was being fixed. It… Continue

My American Journey installment 15

The tags for the van finally came to the house. My wife sent them to me. So for the last leg of my journey, I was officially legal.

I stopped in Bluewater Lake on the way home. It's right off Interstate 40, before you hit Gallup going west from Albuquerque. We own a small trailer there, on a pinon and juniper covered lot overlooking the reservoir. The trailer used to belong to the neighbors, and when they upgraded, we bought it from them and moved it over. Had a little work done to… Continue

My American Journey installment 14

The next morning I stopped at a Mexican restaurant (notice a pattern here?) for breakfast. And hit the road toward Colorado. My sister Lou Ann and her husband live in Loveland, a foothill community just north of Denver. I hadn't seen them for awhile.

The sky was clear, but it was windy as I headed west on Interstate 80.

Having grown up in the Far West, I forget that the Midwest is the West too. When you're there, you can feel it in the history, and the people, and the lay of… Continue

Big Dreams

'Big Dreams'

I read a story the other day about a relatively large lady who has high hopes of being able to claim the Guinness world record title of the 'world's fattest woman'

in the near future. She weights 560 pounds now and hopes to weigh

1,000 pounds in the next couple of…

My American Jouney installment 13

Josh had a show in Omaha that night. Some kind of restaurant gig. But he said he'd be back with his guitar player to do an opening set at The Zoo Bar. He asked if I wanted to play some slide guitar with them. I always want to play some slide guitar.

So I showed up a bit before nine. Found a parking spot around the corner from the club. Cozied the van up to a snow bank. Brought my stuff inside... a couple of guitars and stands. The club had a p.a. and a sound man. I was relieved to… Continue
