'Let Ignorance Be Bliss'

copyright 2010 by Rick Reiley

Did you ever get the idea or the notion

That you really don't have a clue what life's about?

That maybe we're just going through the motions

And that it's just too hard for us to figure out?

Have you ever looked upward towards the heavens

And envisioned mighty God, all wise, enthroned?

Watching us act like monkeys as we slobber,

And mash each other faces in with stones?

(chorus)

Well welcome to this club

Where we drink a toast to this:

Sometimes we should be content

To just let ignorance be bliss

Sometimes I think that life is filled with questions
Piled up high and higher - forever on end,
And just when we think we've found an answer

It disappears and we can't comprehend

Yes Lisa, we DO have control over how we interact with folks on a daily basis. It's just being aware of each step we take towards the days end that makes all the difference. Sometimes just stopping to look into a child's eyes, or for that matter a stranger's eyes, and saying 'hello' from the heart is one of the best ways to start.....

it is often about who crosses our path in a given day, isn't it? sometimes we have control over that, and sometimes we don't. but it seems to me that we are given a certain set of folks in a given day to interact with ...and what we do with that is where all the interesting stuff happens. who we drive past, how we treat someone who calls, who writes on a social network, etc, what we stop for when we're driving by, what we pass at high speeds....

Barry- Yes it's interesting and maddening and I do precious little to break the cycle. But being aware of it helps me -from time to time - to remember to help others. Yes sir! Drive miles and miles to the mega church to learn to be Christlike and neighborly and very possibly don't even know a next door neighbor.

I came across something a day or two ago that really makes a great point.

"Each week, millions and millions of upper middle class American citizens put on expensive dress clothes, load themselves into SUVs, and drive past homeless shelters, orphanages, prisons, missions, and halfway houses on their way to an expensive and nice church where somebody tells them how to be more like Jesus.

That is f***ing awesome, let me tell you."

That sums it up perfectly.
