where creative minds can interact
I've seen singer-songwriter Christine Lavin several times in concert and have been a long-time fan of her music. Several years ago I was delighted to meet her, after a very entertaining Wiffledust concert organized by Lisa.
Chris's generosity is legendary. She has supported so many musicians and helped them get the word out about their music.
I was touched when she kindly endorsed my new illustrated children's book:…

This may become a song. Or just a lone verse.
I tell you things will be okay
but I don't really know
I only talk to fill the space between
sighs and heavy silence
that fill the morning air
between the doubt and darkness
of our dreams

Looking at myself
Often I feel so plain
Unordinary
But to you, I am beautiful
Even on my worst days
You look at me like I'm special
Looking at me through your eyes
I see me in a new view
I never thought…

I was cold
She was warm
Perfect timing
For a storm
Just like that- it was over
And it moved on
Storms are something
Ain't they boys
They rumble…

Packing and moving from my house into DJ's. Found things I hadn't thought of in a long time. For those of you who've lost someone, you know how it can be.

Many couples have a song
One that they feel describes their relationship
We never bothered to find one that suits us
Upon reflecting on that now
I realize there isn’t one yet made
There are countless love songs
Many that are beautifully written
But none that we both relate to
One that we both feel…

This has been one of the most heart-wrenching weeks of work for me in a while. One story to share. I was admitting a woman in her 50's (who is expected to live 4 weeks at the most) to hospice services. These appointments generally last close to 4 hours, and much of my 26 pages of paperwork doesn't take lots of brain cells. I take cues from the patient and family as to how much "extra" conversation in which to engage. I felt a particular kinship with this patient, and we talked about…

Today is my 48th birthday. That number gets noticed in my family. And not in a good way.
In some ways, it has taken on a somewhat dark significance. Mother died suddenly at the age 48. She appeared healthy, but there was a silent aneurysm that ruptured and killed her. Four other family members also died at this age--two from very similar causes. The doctors agreed that her siblings, my brother and sister and I, and our cousins should all get tested for signs of a…

strange faces illuminate the air, unusual smells fill the room, faded floors and exposed brick, old chairs blend with new ideas strange lighting spins on the celing, thurst for water becomes a dream, small crowd gathers, unusual space to express art, the kind you'd find in fiction, Green then brown then brick solid color, oposit a wall filled with book and picture, a distant voice heard through the crowd, a repeated story heard, familier ground in an unfamilier town, heavy feet shake the…

a thousand fears
silenced by a thousand spears
burried by a thousand tears
life celebrated by a thousand beers
not cool to just be
moving runing flee
not cool you will see
Blood shed selfishly
shouting crying here to stay
bones and flesh turn to clay
bodies slit and flayed
this is chaos and hate
who said this is, was my fate
be not of mind and being…

Heavy lids wish to rest
But it is not time yet
Staring at the clock on the wall
I see that it is 7:43 in the evening
The sun is setting, the moon is rising
But it is not time yet
Time tells me there is much to do
A long day is nearly behind me
I wish to rest now
But it's not time…

I'm not your typical girl
Or really your typical anything
Yeah sometimes I'm a lot to handle
But definitely worth the difficult times
I'm done apologizing for where I've been
And for who I was, because I love who I am
Not a beauty queen
Not the trophy girl to show off
I don't want to wear a plastic…

The sun has set
But it's not time for bed yet
The rain is still falling
And I hear the night calling
I think of the sun
Where it is now, are people having fun?
While many here prepare to go to bed
Elsewhere upon daylight's beam do…

What can I possibly say?
Nothing I could do will take the pain away
Such senseless violence was wrought today
How can we keep hate at bay?
In times like these, it's easy to lose hope
How does one learn to cope
It's so easy to cry, to get angry, to…

Up, down, and all around
I've been looking all day
But my sanity is no where to be found
There's so much I have to say
But the words won't come, to my dismay
So isolated, feeling cut off from those I love
Frustrated and just at my wits…

Thoughts jumble together within my mind
Tangled in thick yarn
Unable to separate them
Wanting to break them free
So that perhaps then you will see
The words are there
At the tip of my tongue
If only I could make a connection
Between my mouth and my mind
Perhaps then an explanation you would…

The birds sing
The sound echos all around me
I try to trap the music in a jar
To listen to it at a later date
The snow melts, more and more each day
Bright and warm, the sun comes to greet me
Squirrels scamper to and fro
So it would seem that Spring is here
Winter’s chill still…
