out of the journal springs a poet dos

my last blog focused on rejecting one's dreams and desires. and yes, it was a downer! BUT, while i was writing my assignment for Lillian Gaffney, all of the negative stuff came out as poetry, so i was really happy about that!

the second part of the assignment was to write about acceptance. as it should be, it's an upper, and poetry!…

Julie, Julia, Love, Creativity, and Butter

Julie, Julia, Love, Creativity, and Butter

I know that I’m the last person in America to see the movie “Julie and Julia”, but I finally saw it today. And I haven’t been this happy about a movie in a long time. I just had to talk about it.

It is so rare to see a movie that tells the story of real people, but it seems that women are particularly stereotyped… Continue

Memory Collector

Many people collect things, from paintings, to baseball cards, right down to magnets.

I collect memories. Maybe you do too.

We don’t have to shell out much money for those, although some have cost more than others. The limit is the moon. I’ve been chasing down memories for years, and they are now sitting on porches, watching the sun rise. And I’m thrilled they are remembering, lest I forget. …

DiJoseph's More-Than-a Piano Blog 7-17-10

Now if you came here expecting to here more about the "Dan's" (MTAP blog 1) there will be a delay.

Albeit a worthy one. I need to mention that I showed symptoms of Tourettes Syndrome way back at...age 7. One year before the Magnus organ ... same year I started drum lessons (CORRECTION here: started drum lessons at age 7 not 5...) Kind-of a blue-plate special: "one order of musical drive with a heaping side order of Tourette's please!"

In the April 13, 2010 edition of the… Continue

Is this Any Way to Run A Business? Yeah, I Guess So......

'Is This the Way to Run A Business?'

The evolution of clerks in the mainstream American marketplace is a continuing mystery to me.

I used to feel at least a little bit important to the businesses I frequented. As if I mattered somehow to them.

That's still the case in a few places but more and more it's blatantly obvious that they don't care if I live or die just as long as they can collect my money and get me quickly out of their way. In fact, they often act as if… Continue

A Confused Gardener Contemplates Planting by the Phases of the Moon

New moon, dark moon,

will my plants

blossom & bloom

if planted in mid-June?

Slim chance

give it a try,

they'll live or they'll die.

50th Birthday of "To Kill a Mockingbird", Creativity, and Self Judgment...

It seems that a bunch of us on Facebook this morning were watching the same segment of CBS Sunday morning. They did a piece on the 50th Birthday of “To Kill A Mockingbird”, Harper Lee’s truly great American novel. What stuck with me most was the fact that Harper Lee not only… Continue

out of the journal springs a poet

in my work with Lillian, i recently journaled about my personal experience with rejection. before i knew it, i was rhyming. ;) i love poetry, prose, and music, so when this poem came flowing out i was pleased. writing poetry is fun!

Reflection upon Rejection

She rejected her own hearts desires.
Not completely, just in ten year increments.
She silenced all her hopes and dreams,
the plan of others to…

Second-hand Heart

I put my heart in a cardboard box

and taped it all around.

Put that sucker on the back of my bike

and took a ride downtown.

I stopped in at the pawn shop

to see how much I could get

But they said that they weren't ready

to take in used-up organs yet.

I rode on down to the second-hand store

to show it to Guinevere.

she said, "It looks like a real kind heart.

Sure,…
