The paperback version of my book Collider is now out on booksellers' websites for pre-order. I'm really pleased with the colorful new cover. I wrote a brand new preface for the book, updating readers about what has been happening with the Large Hadron Collider, the largest particle-smasher in the world, since 2009.

Your Kid's Ear
I was one of those booked baby-sitters on the block when I was a young teenager. And although the kids were fun, and making money was new and exciting, the real thrill for me was that I was allowed to use the phone as much as I wanted after the kids went to bed. Imagine that. Saturday night was…

Smashed glass, plastic bottles near decomposed,
aluminum cans bearing the words Pabst Blue Ribbon,
Coca-cola, Sprite, Mountain Dew,
Styrofoam scraps, once burger-holding boxes,
shreds of black bags, clinging to branches like ravens,
graffiti in bulbous script on rock walls...
some day these will be our potshards
and our petroglyphs,
our mementoes to be found by archeologists,
our culture's messages to the future:
Hello!…

Before I begin, let me say I’ve missed you guys! Wait, I’ve missed y’all. That sounds right.
Now that summer is here, I hope you’re able to kick back, splash in a river, listen to some music, or just read a good book.
Speaking of books, I did manage to finish that second…

Something is missing.
Although I hear it is right,
It feels very wrong.

As I lay in the darkness of another man’s bed, thoughts of you invade every fiber of my being. I try to push you away but don’t have the strength. I attempt to pull you closer but you escape my desperate pulls.
Seeing you was both thrilling and excruciating. Betrayal and love catches in my
throat and refuses to abscond. The dark, skeletal hands of memories grab
endlessly at me as our soundtrack of passion and bitter disappointment…

Like a distant memory
It was brief, but fun
My son and I went to a wedding on Friday, it was beautiful. God was smiling down on us, for the rain stopped in time for the decorations to be set up and it stayed dry for the ceremony. :) The reception was busy, busy, busy and I enjoyed every moment of it. The drive home was long and the car ride scared me because the car…

The following are haikus of mine that have been previously published somewhere else. This dozen DOES NOT count towards my 365, but I wanted to post them anyway. The last one is an exception to the general haiku rule of a single verse. It was written after Hurricane Ike.
