world of wiffledust

where creative minds can interact

Smashed glass, plastic bottles near decomposed,

aluminum cans bearing the words Pabst Blue Ribbon,

Coca-cola, Sprite, Mountain Dew,

Styrofoam scraps, once burger-holding boxes,

shreds of black bags, clinging to branches like ravens,

graffiti in bulbous script on rock walls...

some day these will be our potshards

and our petroglyphs,

our mementoes to be found by archeologists,

our culture's messages to the future:

Hello! This is who we were,

this is how we lived.

I like the detail in the poem and the nice line length and word placement, it really helps make your point.
I've thought about this often.

Bettina, I just had to join Wiffledust (been meaning to!) just so I could thank you for this powerful message and for saying it so simply and eloquently. I agree with Rick, very well done.
