My American Journey (installment 2)

I was born in Gallup, New Mexico. A coal mining town. A railroad town. The two go hand in hand.

Historically, Gallup was a community of hard working, hard drinking immigrants who lived right next to the huge Navajo Reservation. It was built because of the huge coal reserves there, and named for the paymaster, whose last name was Gallup. People would say "I'm going to Gallup" when it was time to get paid. The name stuck. Bobby Troupe mentioned the town in his famous song, "Route 66". I… Continue

My American Journey (installment one)

I recently returned to California from a month long jaunt through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado. And then back through New Mexico and Arizona. A big loop that took me out of the Los Angeles area on Interstate 10 and returned me via Interstate 40. All this in an '83 Toyota van (the very first year Toyota made vans for the American market) with 188,000 plus miles on the odometer. Of course, the odometer stopped working years ago.

When we speak of… Continue

She chases, I fall.
Tumbling down together
We fall into love.

Come to your Senses

To me, being in a wild world with so many sights, sounds, odors, tastes and textures is a little like walking down dusty paths of a renaissance festival and being bombarded with the scent of apple dumplings and roasted turkey legs while my ears buzz with pan flutes and tambourines, all as I’m…

The Mad Hater's Tea Party

This started as gibberish just for fun. Turned out to be satirical.

Enjoy...I hope

The Mad Hater's Tea Party

Would you like to come to my tea party?

I’m serving folderol and mashed malarkey

Heaps of frippery and frothy flummery

Do you think that this is dumb of me?

There’ll be lots of frivolity at my tea party

Sliced and diced on beds of triviality

Petty petit fours and arguing S’mores

And nobody doesn’t like Sarah Lee…oops, I…

She gave me a lot:

Her pink jeans and humor genes.

I miss my Momma.

Let Sleeping Icons Lie

I posted this as a poem and submitted it here on Wiffledust. I then decided to turn it into a song. It is not a finished product by a long shot, but I am doing this here as part of sharing my process.

Here are revised lyrics for the song. The song is on my page

Let Sleeping Icons Lie

A cabin anywhere
where the north winds blow
in the middle of the woods
the furious snow
makes not a sound
its there i must go
smoke from the chimney
unfurling as tho
it could reach the heavens and
continue to go
till there is no tomorrow
nor a day left to know
saturated in silence
its there i must go
my mind is racing
the seasons pass slow
for at least a century
near the river flow

21 Century Sane

I do find myself loving technology, but savoring old fashioned pleasures like real face time with friends, hand written letters, and the like.

Sometime I feel like we ( I will speak for myself) have just accepted the madness of these times as normal. I decided it is the new 21st Century sane.

Up for collaboration if someone comes up with music

Lyrics:

The New 21st Century Sane

I’m a canary and I like to tweet

But I shy away from twittering

I’ll throw…

Song assignment to write from perspective of inanimate object

Let me know if you figure it out.

Don't have a clue about music for it. Maybe spoken word funk....hmmmmm, I'm thinking Stephen :-)

That being said, here it is

Excuse any sexist implication. This was done in fun!

Being Number 2

Ouch! Quit pushing. Do you think that I’ll work faster?

Hey! Lighten up. Can’t you just go with the flow?

Bungle! I’ll clean it. Don’t mind helping you communicate

Sometimes I think that you don’t know which way…
