where creative minds can interact
I posted this as a poem and submitted it here on Wiffledust. I then decided to turn it into a song. It is not a finished product by a long shot, but I am doing this here as part of sharing my process.
Here are revised lyrics for the song. The song is on my page
Let Sleeping Icons Lie
1) Let sleeping Icons lie.
Don't even whisper past their grave
It’s the ugly truth you might awake
Though it stirs the memories you crave
2)Let sleeping Icons lie
For just a moment they seem real
But the patina has dulled their glow
It’s a heart of stone that you will feel
Bridge
Let sleeping Icons lie
Send joys of yesterday in flight
They were meant to keep you safe and warm
On a cold and lonely winters night
3)Let sleeping Icons lie
If you lift a rock for just a peek,
A deadly scorpion might spring forth:
Is this the poison that you seek?
4)Let sleeping Icons lie
If you reach out for yesterday,
There’s nothing you can hold onto.
Be in touch with yourself today
Bridge
Let sleeping Icons lie
Send joys of yesterday in flight
They were meant to keep you safe and warm
On a cold and lonely winters night
Let sleeping Icons lie
Time travel is too much to bear
Have pity on the fools who try
Only you know what awaits them there
Let sleeping Icons lie
Let sleeping Icons lie
