Creative Writing Challenge #18-"The person who has made the biggest difference in how I view the holidays has been..."

The person who has made the biggest difference in how I view the holidays has been my older sister, Belinda.

Our dad was a big fan of Christmas, which didn't make much sense to me when I considered his poverty level childhood.  But now, in hindsight, I can see what the holiday really meant for him.  And I have my sister to thank for that.

Daddy's mother, my grandmother Maggie, spent all year making quilts and toys out of her fabric scraps and those pink or blue dry cleaning… Continue

Song; Don't Let It Snow Blues

Don't Let It Snow Blues

1) Punxatawny Phil didn’t see his shadow

So he predicted an early spring

Been freezing and snowing since last December

That groundhog doesn’t know a thing

Chorus

I shovel on Sunday, but more falls on Monday

When will this misery end?

We get a break for a day or two

Then the snow starts falling again

2) The Farmer’s Almanac used to be on target

And I believed what I…

Granny looked funny

Layin' there in the snow

I don't think she ended up

Where she really wanted to go

When she stepped down the stairs

To feed the kitty cats

She tripped over my snowman

And fell on her face-

'Kersplat!'........

I was laughin' so hard

I couldn't stop

Watchin' granny roll around

With the snowman on top

The cats got scared

And jumped into… Continue

Shiver : Haiku stuck on the fridge

Between rain and sun

Skin shivers with the thunder

Of her sleeping breath.

"Some Things" - by my brother, Richard T. Krause

"Some things drift away in the wind, everyone watching it in awe.
Some things drift away in the water, everyone looking in wonder.
And some things, well some things stay put to be seen and never forgotten."

- Richard T. Krause

And then, just like that,

Haiku a day was over.

The year passed quickly.

My Old Dog

'My Old Dog'

I said good bye to an old friend last week. My dog Allie. A mutt with a crippled foot, sort of a long haired dachshund but not quite. She found me in downtown Cushing nearly 11 years ago and I took her home with me. She added much to my life that I have yet to fully fathom.

One week after taking her home I had a heart attack and in the ensuing weeks and months while Karen was working herself to death to nurse me back to health and keep the house and business afloat, this… Continue

She creates music.

Talking to one another...

I posted this today on my Facebook page and Lisa suggested I posted it here, too. So, here it is:

My stomach hurts.

For better or worse, I am an emotional being. Are you familiar with the color gels used on stage lights? Those films placed over plain ol' white lights to create different colors on a stage? Emotions are the gels through which pretty much every thing comes to me or leaves from me.

Most of the time I'm alright with this. Others are too. Many… Continue
