Some say it's just a four letter word

Overused and pretty much meaningless

Truth is many do say it absentmindedly 

Not giving thought to what it really means

Many have been hurt over time

Due to hearing it when it wasn't true

Leaving hearts bitter and skeptical

How much could the word mean if it's so easily used?

When true and pure

Love has powers many haven't seen

Too many hearts are locked…

A jaded heart

One that's been torn apart

Too many times to count

For the tears shed, there's no known amount

A wall built sky high

To keep out every lie

Love is people's foolish notions

Why bother going through the motions

You meet someone

They promise you the stars, the moon, the sun

Things seem to go well for awhile

They even convince you to walk down the aisle

Looking ahead

The light is brilliant

My future is bright

Brighter than it's been in a long time

Hope is alive in my heart

One step in front of the other

Doing what I can each day

To accomplish my goals

Brilliant hazel eyes and dimples

Just like yours

I can hear her angelic voice

She puts her tiny hand in mine

Smiles and my heart melts

"Grandma", she squeals in delight

There's nothing I wouldn't do for her

I remember our trips to the store

The candy you'd buy me if I was good

The garage sales and trips to the library

So many books, scattered throughout the house

I loved talking to you

And laying by you

Watching PBS or perhaps Murder She Wrote

Listening to your laughter

You have always been full of…

Sometimes I look at my stomach

I see the marks left upon it

Ten years they've been there now

Some think they're hideous

Even I have thought so a time or two

I remember a time before they were there

The smooth skin, being a size one

No real sense of resposibility

Could come and go as I pleased

How life has changed

Over the years

I have come to cherish these marks

Each one symbolizes the love…

Staring through the hourglass of time

Looking at the past

No longer wishing to change things

Accepting what was

Both the good and the bad

Once upon a time

I wished I could rewrite my past

Change things that I did

Take back things I'd said

Not know some that I had

What has been written

Can not be taken back

The ink has dried

The chapters are closed

There's just no going…
