My next paranormal story happened just a few months ago. While we were living in Branson, MO we decided to go on the local "ghost tour of haunted Branson". I wasn't expecting much. I've been on haunted tours before, they've all been basically the same thing. Someone walks you around telling you ghost stories of this house, that old park, etc. There are always people who have been on the tour who have seen things. On a tour in Wilmington, NC we were even greeted at the door of a house. The owner…

My eyes are sleepy
And the rest of me is, too.
Oh. There was no rest.

I wait. You don't come.
I go. You go somewhere else.
Is that a friendship?

My last blog post was about one of the most memorable paranormal experiences I've had. The experience I'm sharing now happened in the same house, but it's totally different. The house has been known to have strange things happen. You could hear the front door open and close, and sometimes hear footsteps but no one was there. Or you could hear the trashcan lid open and close in the kitchen when the room was seemingly unoccupied. This story goes into a different realm, the realm of…

Here there be dragons!
For some, that is a warning;
For some, a challenge.

I thought I might stop at the La Posada Hotel in Winslow, Arizona to eat. It's a fully restored Fred Harvey hotel, harking back to the thirties in every way. But alas, I didn't feel like stopping there either. On to Flagstaff, and over the mountains to Seligman, a tiny town where they advertise the birth of Route 66. My youngest son Sam and I broke down there once, years ago, on the way back to California from Bluewater Lake. Ended up spending several days while the Aerostar was being fixed. It…

The tags for the van finally came to the house. My wife sent them to me. So for the last leg of my journey, I was officially legal.
I stopped in Bluewater Lake on the way home. It's right off Interstate 40, before you hit Gallup going west from Albuquerque. We own a small trailer there, on a pinon and juniper covered lot overlooking the reservoir. The trailer used to belong to the neighbors, and when they upgraded, we bought it from them and moved it over. Had a little work done to…

What’s Really Wrong With America
There’s alot wrong with America these days, but almost all our beloved country’s ills lie in one place. The house. The American house is simply too big. Hear me out.
I’ve been in alot of houses in my day. Houses were my thing for years during my “I wanna be an architect” phase. I dragged my poor father to every open house…

The next morning I stopped at a Mexican restaurant (notice a pattern here?) for breakfast. And hit the road toward Colorado. My sister Lou Ann and her husband live in Loveland, a foothill community just north of Denver. I hadn't seen them for awhile.
The sky was clear, but it was windy as I headed west on Interstate 80.
Having grown up in the Far West, I forget that the Midwest is the West too. When you're there, you can feel it in the history, and the people, and the lay of…

Josh had a show in Omaha that night. Some kind of restaurant gig. But he said he'd be back with his guitar player to do an opening set at The Zoo Bar. He asked if I wanted to play some slide guitar with them. I always want to play some slide guitar.
So I showed up a bit before nine. Found a parking spot around the corner from the club. Cozied the van up to a snow bank. Brought my stuff inside... a couple of guitars and stands. The club had a p.a. and a sound man. I was relieved to…

'Big Dreams'
I read a story the other day about a relatively large lady who has high hopes of being able to claim the Guinness world record title of the 'world's fattest woman'
in the near future. She weights 560 pounds now and hopes to weigh
1,000 pounds in the next couple of…
