Creative Writing Challenge #14-A Ghost Story

Skipping ahead a bit but this one was just "there" this morning and I needed to get it out of the way.

Her side:

“A ghost?”

Spoken more as a statement than a question with that look he reserves for my more “whackadoodle” comments and ideas.

“Yes. A ghost. I don’t know any other way to describe it. I was out in the garden…”

I might as well have been talking to a…

Convoluted thoughts
Arrive in the night's wee hours

"There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in." Wiffledust Creative Writing Challenge #11- What one lyric speaks to you when nothing else can, and why?

I have gone most of my life without ever hearin' of Leonard Cohen. Don't ask me how, cuz I don't even know! Sorta like Bob Dylan, he's criticized cuz his singin' voice isn't very pretty. But who in the world cares about a singin' voice when you can write songs like that?!?!

The lyric comes from "Anthem", and if you know the song, you know it's chock full of meaningful lyrics. If you don't know the song, here's a link.…

'Over the river and through the woods...

...to grandmother's house we go'.......took on a different meaning to me after visits to Grandma Reiley's house.

Prior to that I envisioned fun and adventure and mystique and gingerbread cookies and all sorts of wonder.

. At Grandma Reiley's we got out of the car to discover a skinny, plainly dressed woman with thin lips and a dour look on her face. No KoolAid or punch at grandma's house. No cookies and milk. Just a simple meal with water. After saying grace. Simple times.

I never… Continue

Five things I have learned in life that I would want to pass on to the younger generations....

1) Do not drink and drive, ever. You might get away with it for years or you might get busted your first time, but getting busted is only one thing that could go wrong. Not only could you get into a lot of trouble, have to pay hefty fines, lose your license, (if you even have one) and maybe even sit jail time...which by the way is a whole another story entirely; you could also get hurt… Continue

Creative Writing Challenge #11 - Lyric me

This is a really hard challenge for me because music is so much a part of my every day and no one song or lyric fits me two days running. I use music to change my mood when things are too heavy or to bring on the tears when I'm in pain and can't cry. I've been caught dancing through my house, the grocery, and just about anywhere else, even when there's no music playing. I keep it all in my head!!

My music for winter is nothing like my summer music. And, like Christmas music, there are… Continue

Creative Writing Challenge #10 - My Secret Crush

He is a Leo, same as my dad was. But I don't think I view him as a father figure.

No, I'm certain I don't.

He was born in California; I don't hold that against him since he makes a better cowboy than any I've met here in Texas. Then too, they were cowboyin' out on the left coast long before it became cool to do so. And, like so many other things, they cowboy slow and easy out in California. Taking his time; I'd let him take his time. He… Continue

and even so it'll be alirght."

This is the first year I did not have to fill out a permission slip or deal with parent teacher conferences or the other trappings of public school. At this time last year I was staring down the finish line of my youngest daughters senior year. It had been a long time coming. After many years of dealing with three children who were not go with the flow inside the box types (apple doesn't fall far from the tree) I was almost finished. Sure I was worried about the "real world" freak out that… Continue

"Today, I am a Mirror" Creative Writing "Here's Lookin' at you, kid"

I’m really great at my job. I’m not being boastful, cuz it’s true. There aren’t a whole lot of people who would, number one, do what I do, and number two, have a high level of success. I teach students with special needs. Not just Learning Disabled, Resource Room/Content Mastery kids. I teach…
