where creative minds can interact

"There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in." Wiffledust Creative Writing Challenge #11- What one lyric speaks to you when nothing else can, and why?

I have gone most of my life without ever hearin' of Leonard Cohen. Don't ask me how, cuz I don't even know! Sorta like Bob Dylan, he's criticized cuz his singin' voice isn't very pretty. But who in the world cares about a singin' voice when you can write songs like that?!?!

The lyric comes from "Anthem", and if you know the song, you know it's chock full of meaningful lyrics. If you don't know the song, here's a link. http://http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/leonardcohen/anthem.html

Just reading them makes my eyes swell with tears, a lump form in my throat, all due to our human conditions. For me, Cohen is telling us that's we are perfect and balanced in our imperfection; just like the yin/yang. If it weren't for the dark, we would not see the light.

There IS a crack in everything, and that IS how the light gets in. What's more important than the crack is the light...this little light of mine, i'm gonna let it shine. cracks an' all.

Well put Susie. His songs aren't just to entertain, but to enlighten. Life mantras.

I could gush about his lyrics! There's so much to say! Sadly, the closest concert was Kansas City, and I couldn't go. He is a gift.

Oh Carrie, I love this song so much!!! I'm so glad to meet someone else who appreciates it as I do! Leonard Cohen is a remarkable wordsmith and one that knows how to speak from the very depths of the human spirit. He's been touring again, now that he's 70 years old, and the shows have been amazing. Don't miss him if you get a chance to see him. I saw him here in San Diego a year and a half ago and was mesmerized by his performance. I could go on and on but think I'll stop here. Again, I'm so glad to know someone else who loves this lyric also.
