Creative Writing Challenge #11 - Lyric me

This is a really hard challenge for me because music is so much a part of my every day and no one song or lyric fits me two days running. I use music to change my mood when things are too heavy or to bring on the tears when I'm in pain and can't cry. I've been caught dancing through my house, the grocery, and just about anywhere else, even when there's no music playing. I keep it all in my head!!

My music for winter is nothing like my summer music. And, like Christmas music, there are certain times that are just taboo for some of it.

So, what would be my "signature" lyric? It would have to be something related to water I think.

"Hark, now hear the sailors cry. Smell the sea and feel the sky. Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic."

Van "The Man" Morrison. In 2000 I watched (from one of the "islands" on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge near Hampton Roads, Virginia) a passing Portuguese ship with her sailors standing side-by-side on the yardarms and draped in the rigging and listened as they sang to us. Van brings their voices back to me. I can always conjure images of the waves, smell the pepper-scented air, feel the cool breeze coming off the open expanse of water.

My niece and my oldest daughter are responsible for me getting in touch with my somewhat suppressed southern female redneck side, so I think, at least recently, THIS may be the lyric that speaks for me:

"Well, I've been saved by the grace of southern charm
I got a mouth like a sailor and yours is more like a Hallmark card
If you wanna pick a fight, well, I'm gonna have to say good night
I don't have to be hateful, I can just say, "Bless your heart"

Miranda Lambert
