Tonight Is Ours

As the sun's last rays begin to fade from the sky

I turn towards you

Your eyes give a hint of a smile

I reach out for your hands

Pulling me into your arms

I let the day's worries melt away

 

There are so many problems to face

But not tonight

For a little while

They're put on hold

Do not let your heart be troubled

Focus on this, focus on now

 

The sun will set for you

Another day gone

Though we're not promised tomorrow

I have faith we still have much time left

Time to accomplish many things

But let us worry about that later

 

Dwell not upon the regrets of yesterday

All the things left unsaid, undone

Think not about what you have yet to do

Your hands are cold

Let me warm them up for you

You smile as I draw closer still

 

I can feel your shoulders begin to relax

I pull back a bit so I can look into your eyes

My hands upon your face

Your eyes have much to say to me

Trying to quiet my mind

So that I may hear you loud and clear

 

I put my arms around you

And we just sway to the silent music in our heads

Words need not be spoken aloud

This night belongs to us

We shall not let it go to waste

Cherish every moment of it, we must

 

Moments like these are few and far between

Too much going on in the world

So many things to do

How often do any of us find time to be still

To relax, to enjoy moments of peace and tranquility

Drink upon the juice of love

 

It tastes sweet

But doesn't leave a horrible aftertaste 

What lingers tastes of honey and wine

It smells absolutely delicious

I find myself in awe

Basking in its wonder

Let this moment be etched in your mind for years to come

Remember me this way

Smiling from ear to ear

Love glowing in my eyes

Fully alive

 

Remember yourself

Shall I hold a mirror in front of you?

Do you not see the joy reflected in your face?

Remember the way you feel right now

Hold that feeling close to your heart

Remember it when times get rough

 

Life is guaranteed to begin

And to end

But we don't know how much time there will be in between

We're all to face the good that life has to offer

And to have the bad brought down upon us 

Remembering the good when all looks gloomy is tricky

Smell the strawberries in my hair

Revel in the night set before us
