where creative minds can interact

Those of you in Philly probably knew or heard of Dan Kleiman. He was an amazing keyboardist, composer, and arranger. He was in a group called Siora, with Phyllis Chapell as the vocalist.

He had recently been given a commission to compose a choral piece to be performed at the Vatican. Many commissions were coming to him.

He also played on and arranged my CD and the Christmas song I had posted here.

I could go on and on....but Dan passed away on Feb 22nd....one day before his first vacation in 10 years. He was going to Yucantan Peninsula...to Tulum. One of the last things he wrote in Facebook status was "Dreaming of Tulum...."

It happened so quickly and out of nowhere. We are all still stunned and saddened.

I wrote this song as my way of dealing with it.

For Dan: Dreaming of Tulum

1) Why did you leave in the dead of winter? Dm Am
Didn't you believe that spring would come? Bb7 A7
Did you run out of patience or was it time to go Gm Am Gm A7
To your dreams of Tulum and the ever-warming sun? Gm Bb7 A7

2) Couldn’t you hold on a little longer? Dm Am
You took a leap of faith; you were poised to fly Bb7 A7
All the stars were aligned to grant your every wish Gm Am Gm A7
Did they need your light, shining in the sky? Gm A7 (D7)
Chorus
You have gone beyond World Music Bb6

Now you’re playing in the spheres Dm

In a place with no worries Gm

No more pain and no more fears Dm

Are you composing new songs Bb6

for a languished angel choir? Dm
Did they need your inspiration Gm
to re-ignite their fire? A7

3) Your Earthly vessel couldn’t house your spirit Dm Am
You burst from your cocoon so you could soar Bb7 A7
We’re grateful for the music you that you gave to us Gm Am Gm A7
Your gifts will keep on living and giving ever more Gm A7 (D7)

Chorus
You have gone beyond World Music Bb6

Now you’re playing in the spheres Dm

In a place with no worries Gm

No more pain and no more fears Dm

Are you composing new songs Bb6

for a languished angel choir? Dm
Did they need your inspiration Gm
to re-ignite their fire? A7 A7+

Maybe in our dreams we will be with you Gm Am Gm A7
Blissful in Tulum in the ever- warming sun Gm A7
Blissful in Tulum in the ever- warming sun Gm B7 A7 Dm

Thanks Stephen. I did it at Dan's memorial this past Sunday. Rich Rudin play piano. It was a little misty eyed for a lot of people, but that is part of life too, no?

this is beautiful, sherry. i was deeply saddened and shocked to hear about dan's passing. he was way too young and had so much more music to make. thank you for this lovely song.
