November 13, 2011 Challenge - Describe a character

Genterion in the year 2045

Character: Alice II and I

Note: My character will be based on the pseudo-historical figure of Alice of Hedleyshire. She is part of my history of the fictional country of Genterion, stretching from the years 1530 to 2045, a 515 year period. The federal kingdom of Genterion is divided into four states, each governed by a monarch. The monarch of the state of Ahlerica is the head of the nation, ruling over three sub-monarchs. At the time of Alice, there were only three states.

Bio: Alice was born into a peasant family in Hedleyshire, Britannia in 1781. Her upbringing was rather humble. She worked along with her mother as a seamstress and chambermaid during her adolescence. Alice was well liked by the folk Hedleyshire, and she frequently helped out teachers and nuns at the local school and chapel.

Alice came to international attention during the devastating Genterion Civil War. The war lasted from mid-1798 to mid-1799, over a year of fighting. The war was caused when the Briton King Louis sent an assassin to kill Frankish King Otto I. The killing was a success, and the State of Frankia declared war on the State of Britannia. Otto's two children Pepin and Bertrada were made monarchs, co-ruling with eachother. The two invaded Britannia, and soon occupied Hedleyshire. King Pepin I stayed in Hedleyshire for a while, and become interested in Alice. The two fell in love. He was 20, and she was 17. An odd coincidence, though, as Pepin and Bertrada's mother was also an Alice, who died in 1791.

Alice was described as a happy, and positive mistress to the king. She was also very smart, as most people in Hedleyshire could not even spell their own name, as Alice could. Apart from being happy and positive, Alice also was patriotic to the Frankish people, knowing that her lover's father was murdered by a subordinate of her foul King Louis.

October 20, 1798 came around when the Franks left to capture Ruringstead, a town north of Hedleyshire. Alice rode faithfully with Pepin and his sister-queen Bertrada. The battle at Ruringstead was swift, and a Frankish victory, on November 13. However, Bertrada was stabbed in the lung, and infection developed. She had to be hospitilized in a Briton, foreign land. Bertrada I of Frankia died on November 24, of pleurisy.

Pepin was crushed and overcome with grief. Alice was deeply worried of her lover, but the king quickly put away his grief. 5 days later he married Alice, and she became co-regnant, Alice II of Frankia. She was an international figure now, no longer a bright, cheery peasant girl from Britannia.

The Franks won the war. The deceitful and treacherous King Louis was guillotined, and the State of Britannia was re-organized. However, the throne was vacant, and no one was in the mood to repair a state torn apart by war. Our heroine Alice volunteered, as it was her homeland to fix, and she was ready to do it. So in late 1799, after she had her first child, Philip, she was crowned Alice I of Britannia. Immediately, this created a bond between Frankia and Britannia.

Now Alice ruled Frankia as Alice II, and she ruled Britannia as Alice I. She undertook the job of rebuilding and repairing Britannia, which she did successfully. Alice bore Pepin two children. Philip was born in 1799, and Simon was born in 1806.

In 1829, she herself coronated her son Philip as Philip I of Britannia. Wanting to further connect Frankia and Britannia, Pepin and Alice crowned their younger son Simon as Simon I of Frankia, in 1832. After both her reigns completed, Alice lived on as an advisor and mother to both her children, loved by them and the people of Frankia and Britannia.

Alice of Hedlyshire died in 1860, at 79 years of age, a year after Pepin died.
