Journey to the Stars

Scratching at the dirt

Embedding it deep within my fingernails

The ground is cold

The sky is dark

I find myself afraid

But I know that I'm not alone

 

I hear voices all around me

Some saying prayers to the heavens above

Others cursing the very same

Some cry quietly nearby

And still others sing

The various moods swirl throughout the air

 

When you reach the bottom

Some think you've gone as far down as you can go

I happen to think there's a place below this

But I wish not to reach it

The stars above shine their light in the distance

Daylight is eons away yet

 

I have made progress

For I'm not as far down as I was just days before

Some try to claw at me

Wanting to keep me with them

But I fight their grasping hands

I am not destined to stay here

 

The top will not find me alone

When I reach it

Oh and I will

No matter where you find yourself

There are many around you

You're only alone if you choose to be

 

Despair tries to crush me

Its weight is almost too much to bear

My shoulders struggle

My legs shake

Still upward I climb

Towards the stars

 

The stars have always been friends of mine

I hear them whisper to me

Its faint, but I hear them all the same

Motivating me

Pushing me to keep going

Reminding me of my strength

 

Reach us

Come play with us

Talk with us awhile

You belong here

Amongst the light

Keep climbing

 

Times are tough

And they're bound to get rougher still

But do not give up

Do not give in

Don't let the darkness take hold

Keep fighting

 

I'll find my way out

I have before

I don't remember how I did it

The memories have faded

But I do know it's been done before

So I shall do it again once more
