where creative minds can interact
You wear your youth proudly
A golden crown nestled upon your brow
Sparkling sapphires, glittering emeralds, stunning rubies
Representing energy, determination, & hope
Dreaming of tomorrow without truly realizing what's ahead
Unless you plan on dying young
You must know you will grow old
Looks will fade
Your body will slow down
That crown will tarnish
Taking your body for granted
Wearing it down
Putting strain on your mind
It's easy to recover from such things now
Not seeing it won't always be that way
But though you'll age
Why should that mean your youth will fade away?
Outwardly, we all change
Wrinkles, loss of hair, body changing
No amount of surgery can truly change that
You can look young well past your outer youth
But, your body knows the truth
As does your mind
You can try to trick it into thinking differently
However it knows better
But your heart can carry your youthful spirit
For an indefinite length of time
Keeping your memories in tact
Remembering to find time to laugh
And never allowing yourself to grow stale
Though the gems upon your crown grow dull over time
And the crown rusts
It remains sturdy
With each youthful moment you create
The stronger it becomes
Even when your last breath is spent
And your footsteps no longer walk the earth
Your spirit will endure
If you remember to leave your mark
While you have time left to live
Live each day to the fullest
Cherish those who love you
Share laughter
Lean upon one another
Dwell not upon death, but focus on life

Inspiring poem!
I think I have already been leaving my mark with my writing, my singing, and though it's been rough....parts of me live within my son and he's showing the world bits and pieces of who I am as he is doing with his dad as well. My mark is showing the world the beauty of music, the written word, the complexities and many beauties in life, that life and people are both light and dark. My friendship has left its imprint upon people's hearts as well. I show that it's possible to do nice things for people without expecting anything in return and/or holding it over people's heads, that there is still good in this world. I try to show God's love by being there for those around me, not just those I love, but strangers and even people I don't like sometimes. I really hope that my spirit will endure in the hearts of those I leave behind when it's my time to go.
very true words here eloquently said, carissa. i love the concentration on making our mark. i feel it's one of our main callings. what's going to be your mark?
