where creative minds can interact

Have to share this - not really entering the contest, but I thought this was a little spooky. I never knew "orbs" until my daughter explained them to me (she's very much into the paranormal). I took this photo a couple of weeks ago and have no explanation for the little "reflection" at the base of the tree, especially since the sun was shining on the other side of said tree. This was taken in a park, but on the grounds is a very old house with a very small (only two headstones) cemetery. I was standing right next to the cemetery when I took the photo...

Any theories?!?

this tree has so mucho much energy,Elle , that the electro-magnetic forces were duly captured....perhaps.....trees have so much to offer in so many ways ,for sure.

Thanks, LOXO. I figured it was a reflection (although I don't understand how with the sun being behind it!). Don't know enough about either digital cameras or orbs to really form an opinion. Just thought it was an interesting photo that might generate some Hallowe'enish conversation. And, in all honesty, I'm not sure I even believe in orbs. More like flash on dust motes in most cases!!

This is either a reflection from the sunlight off of something, most likely an insect, or glare. its pretty common with digitals. Notice that its the same basic color as the sunlight thats coming through the trees.

oh wow! you would never catch me doing a sleepover at an old prison..esp eastern state! yikes! that would scarey the behooey out of me!! believe it or not, i've never been to gettysburg. i could see why a spirit would go back there though. it's the ones where they just sit around an old hotel or something that never made sense to me!

I've heard that it depends on how a person died. If they die violently, then they tend to hang around where they died. Ever been to Gettysburg? I've heard that there are sightings there all the time. This "prison" was built in 1829 - Dickens visited once and called it "cruel and wrong"! http://www.easternstate.org/history/ And there are lots of people to interact with! It's a museum now, with memberships, and they give tours. They do a "sleepover" on Hallowe'en for members and my kid heard it's so scary she won't do it!

yowsa! but what gets me about things like that, elle is why would a ghost or spirit hand out at a prison? i mean i like to think that when we're finished with our bodies here that we don't just hang out here where we last were. sure, i want to visit and all that. but i don't like the thought of ghosts hanging out where they can't interact. so i never understood someone just haunting some past place....what would be so fun about that? boo! i knew you when? like one endless high school reunion? LOL

Not sure what the flash might have done - you should have seen the eyes of the deer that were there. They looked like they were demon deer!!

Ridiculous not to - absolutely! My daughter took a photo while touring the Eastern State Penitentiary (lots of history in THAT place!) that shows what looks very much like a ghost on one of the walk-overs. She couldn't see it when she took the photo, but it showed up when she got the film processed. Now THAT was spooky!

yeah but would the flash do that? i guess anything is possible. we probably won't know the answer. but isn't it interesting how we are so quick to talk ourselves out of what our hunches are? that there are people who live among us that we can't see but that can be captured every now and then with instruments that detect light or sound differently than our own senses? sometimes i think it's ridiculous to believe. other times i think it's ridiculous not to!!!

Thanks, Lisa! Not sure I buy into the "orb" theory either. Dust motes, yeah probably. But what if...? (Gotta love "What ifs...?" every now and then!! ) I'm trying hard to remember if the flash came on, which could explain it. New camera, still MUCH to learn about it. And this old dog has so much trouble learning new "tricks" anymore.

well first of all, it's a beautiful pic! i have seen what people call orbs, elle, but i never saw one like this. usually what i see are white circles. some say they are orbs, and some say they are dust on a digital camera. but this doesn't look like that at all. this looks like fire. i wonder what that is!? do you think it's a spirit? hmmmmmm how fascinating! i don't know what is what, but i believe this is a very big, very complicated, very miraculous, and very intermingling universe. everything is possible!! thanks for sharing this!
