Maryanne, I hope you'll forgive me chuckling at this! I love it. At least he was a happy drunk. And I'm glad you got something out of him that was very useful! I often think of Barbra Streisand saying the reason she became such a success was because her father abandoned the family and her mother told her she'd never be somebody. Sometimes we get what we need more than what we wish for! :-) Those survival in the woods skills may yet come in handy. Wayne Dyer says he is who he is today, because his drunk father abandoned the family.
That is so wonderful Lisa ... to have a father like that .. you were so blessed! I am grateful for my dad too but not because he did any true listening or fathering in the traditional sense. My dad was a very happy drunk who loved to teach us kids how to survive in the wilds and we learned a lot from him and to this day I never worry if civilization goes kaput because I was trained by McGyver William Hughes! :-)
on this father's day, i am so very grateful for having my dad as my dad. i didn't get to have him as long as many people do. but it was long enough to learn what he wanted to teach me and long enough for us to be the best of forever friends. so many girls never get a father who takes their dreams and ambitions seriously and never learn to believe that they are more than cute. my father listened to every hope and dream i ever had and took each one seriously enough to discuss at length. we didn't always agree, but i knew that what i wanted and what i thought mattered. and i knew he was in my corner. i wish the same for every kid out there.
i'm grateful for the rain this morning. i have some things that need to be metaphorically washed away!!
Beautiful, Lisa! The people in our lives can make all the difference! So grateful to have special people around to enrich my life!!
i am particularly grateful for the life of my dear aunt. she was a big joy in my life, and i loved her very much. she was funny and intelligent, warm and kind. she wanted to be a fine teacher, and she was one. and i believe she remembered every single student she ever taught, because she told me about so many of them long after they were grown. she taught me so much about history from a first person point of view, because she lived a long time. but not long enough for my liking.
i'm grateful that although we had a big storm system move through here that we didn't lose power. i feel guilty that i am so dependent upon electricity, but it is very disruptive to me to have the power out. esp with food in the fridge. so i'm just very grateful this morning that we have some much needed rain AND the lights on! :-)
making me smile a huge smile of gratitude .... :-)
interesting, maryanne, because i too have been thinking more about how we are all connected/interconnected. there are so many synchronicities in life. i believe that we bump into each other, fall in love with each other, befriend each other, teach each other, serve each other, work for each other probably for a reason. there is probably a big matrix of some type going on out there, in here. i have no idea. but some things are just too unusual to not notice. and these are the truly important things to be grateful for. that stranger telling you you look nice today. that status on fb that touches us. a moment here. the smile from a baby at the right moment. whatever it is. i just feel there is intelligence behind it all. i'm rambling too! :-) it's late! haha
I have taken on a new perspective of being Grateful and it no longer is based on that there is someone else in the world who is suffering in a way that my life looks wonderful or blessed .. I am Grateful for being connected to every single living thing and in that is a knowing that we all are equal in this universe and we all benefit from Grace and Kindness and Love and Joy and that benefit even flows into the hearts of those who by our standards of "blessings" are not that as blessed ..... who am I to "think" that because someone does not have shoes that they are not blessed? ... they are, we all are, and I am grateful that I am beginning to see all as blessed in a way that is not based on what I have or they don't have ..... rambling I am! hard to explain but just wanted to share. And Lisa, yes, those little things are wonderful and remind me of the simple joys in life which are so numerous that there is something wonderful that happens inside of my heart when I take stock of those simple messages that whisper to me that I am having a moment of joy (good lord, I must have had one too many glasses of wine tonight!) :-) Hugs for all!
