a Texas music legend in the making
I found my old ear-training/sight-singing classmate, Adam Carroll, through, you may have guessed, Facebook, listed as a favorite of another musician. I recognized the name, looked him up, and beat a path to the next local show. I was absolutely blown away by his talent. The stories he tells, the way he strings words together...a very fine wordsmith indeed.
Since he grew up in Tyler, Texas, he sings about stuff I know...Kilgore, the Snow Cone Man, the Gladewater Highway, Blondie and Dagwood. Listening to his music feels like home as he tells stories of those down on their luck, makin' His love songs are sensual, gentle, and honest. When he sings "I could never love a stripper like the way I love you" it feels like the most romantic thing anyone has ever said to a woman.
His skill with words hasn't gone unnoticed, either. His use of contrast, rhyme, repetition, and alliteration is genius, says Steve Circeo. After my first listen to "Old Town Rock N Roll" I knew I was hearing all that, but Steve put it into grammatical terms for me, as well as confirming that yes, he's a genius and I'm not just partial to him cuz I know him.
Check out his music, then make every effort to see him live. Better yet, book him for a house concert. Just don't expect a lengthy conversation, as he saves his way with words for his songs.

Adam Carroll is the real deal. A common-sense lyricist with sharp wit, a goofy slant on everyday happenings and a way with words. I highly recommend his music. He's a friend of a friend of a friend, too, so check out Susan Gibson, who sings and plays beautifully herownself and sometimes with Adam.

My good buddy Gene Collier has spoken highly of him for quite a while. He is either coming to the Blue Door in OKC soon (or heaven forbid) he was already there. Yes, a very fine writer.....
