where creative minds can interact
Dear Coach,
I've only seen you once here, asking about books, intensely discussing the reasons you love historical fiction and nonfiction. I was impressed immediately by how much you seemed to love reading and enjoy finding out more about history--I think I'd fallen prey to the stereotype of non-reading, blockhead former jocks who wouldn't go near a book unless it was entitled "Sports Illustrated Best Bathing Suit Covers." Please forgive my prejudice! Admittedly, I do also admire your physical presence, which is impressive, but what struck me most was your desire to learn more, to educate yourself, and to find the time to somehow fit reading in with your busy coaching schedule. I haven't seen much of that before, and I WAS married to a former jock who refereed in all of his spare time, and mine.
Since I had the pleasure of making your acquaintance, you have utilized the library's resources by calling in to renew your books. This means that while I immensely enjoyed hearing your deep voice over the phone--whether or not you knew it was me or even remembered who I was--I do not get to see you in person. That is a pity. Still, I wish you well in your pursuit of historical knowledge and think of you way more often than is reasonable. At least allow me to say, although you will never see this letter, that I hold you in high regard and think well of what you seem to stand for. I admire your commitment to your job, your willingness to find time to continue to educate yourself, and your dry humor that I got too small a glimpse of. I wish you well in your pursuits.
Sincerely,
Librarian
