It was raining on and off that day, so there weren't very many people around but I don't think they would object as long as you cleaned up after.  There weren't any "keep off the grass" signs either.  Here in Texas there would have definitely been "Keep off the grass" signs but according to my friends the rain is so abundant in Scotland signs like that are virtually unheard of.
