Sorry, Jodie.  No banana slugs here.  We were just talking about seeing them in the pacific northwest.  Thisshot is in da' nort' woods of Wisconsin.  Trust me, you DON'T want to eat banana slugs!  The sucker I was talking about was a definite gross-out attempt by an enterprising entrepenuer in the northwest.  It WAS banana flavored. ;-)

Thank you, Maryanne!  I'm not sure if ferns are in groves, stands, or mats.  I suppose it depends on their density or somethng like that.  I've been on the Olympic Penninsula before and the ferns there were quite amazing as well as the banana slugs!  I believe that I bought a couple of banana slug suckers to bring back to my nieces at the time. Yumm!  They were banana flavored as I recall ;-)

Beautiful photo. Reminds me of the fern dense woods in CA where I spent 16 years. We would go hiking around the Big Basin area and have to work our way through dense groves (does one call hundreds of ferns groves?) and also we had to avoid stepping on banana slugs! Again, a beautiful picture.

Ha!  Thanks, Lisa!  This was my buddy Doug's favorite fern and still is I guess.  He and I worked archaeological survey in the deep woods in northern Wisconsin a couple of years back.  Many of these new shots are from that time.
