and do you remember those thingies they put your feet in to measure them??? and a real live person waited on you? and they probably supported a family on that salary???
Yes, there were shoe stores and it was a big deal for my mom to get my sister and me fitted for school shoes. Actually this one shop (forget the name, but it was in Florence, KY during the 70's and 80's) had a hidey hole in the wall and a slide! I guess that way children were occupied while the adults shopped
i remember clothes being more of a quality item than now, and much more expensive. we went on "outings" to buy coats, for example. or to a special store to buy shoes. there was nothing like payless or tj maxx. the clothes were made in america or europe, and they were pricier too.
