I'm old enough to remember leaving the house right after breakfast and not returning until dinner and it was not big deal. I am old enough to remember gas wars and hoping the station across the street would get the gas down to 26 cents a gallon and fill the the "bug" using the money I collected from cashing in glass pop bottles that I found along the road. :-)

I remember when my sister was trying to get vegetarian fare in our town (Cincinnati, OH) in the early 90's... not only was "french fries" or some side dish the only option at every restaurant she tried, but a waiter actually believed that a cincy style chilli (with ground beef) was veggie-friendly and tried to serve it to her

Yes.... those metal shoe thingies!  And it was an actual older adult waiting on you, not a student working at minimum wage while going to school

Yes, encyclopedias! We also had to look stuff up in phone books and yellow pages.  And buy an atlas or map to go on a long trip

Yes, there were shoe stores and it was a big deal for my mom to get my sister and me fitted for school shoes.  Actually this one shop (forget the name, but it was in Florence, KY during the 70's and 80's) had a hidey hole in the wall and a slide!  I guess that way children were occupied while the adults shopped

I remember when you wanted to find something out, you had to look it up in a book or encyclopedia.
