I just finished watching "Awakenings" with Robert De Niro and Robin Williams. "Awakenings" is based upon a memoir written by neurologist Dr. Oliver Sacks. In the summer of 1969 a miracle happened. Patients, suffering from encephalitis awoke from a catatonic state with the aid of L-Dopa which is a drug used for Parkinson's Disease. The story is compelling and the acting is brilliant. I can think of no finer contemporary film actor than Robert De Niro, and Robin Williams positively shines in this movie. If you haven't seen "Awakenings," please put it on your list of films to watch. You may be saddened by the story, but you won't be disappointed in the film.

Nancy, you will only miss the chopping :-) But, he does have a way with that axe that is an ironic thing of beauty ... and there is one part where he and another hunter share the axe .... I do not like blood and gore but I was able to tolerate the messiness of this flick because I really like the theme and I believe it was done very well. You can close your eyes but I bet you will be opening one :-)

I loved the book...it all just worked right into the reality of his life but not sure I want to watch the movie as I hate the sight of bunches of blood splashed on the screen and heads being chopped off...if I close my eyes at the scary parts how much of the movie will I miss...?

We loved this movie, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter! Yes it is gory, and no I would not take little ones to see vampires being taken out by Honest Abe and is associates BUT if you love history, love Abraham Lincoln = Honest Abe and love vampire stories that are about vampires and not some hyped fluff then you just may enjoy this movie that delivers history with a twist and an axe :-)

Veronica and I just got home from seeing "BRAVE"!  What a wonderful family film!  Excellent story set in Scotland during the Middle Ages. The story centers around the oldest child, Merida, of the King and Queen.  She does not want to be put in the "princess box"!  She loves to ride, enjoys nature, and excellent at archery!  Her Mother decides it is time for the Clans to come together to compete for the hand of Merida, which she wants no part of!!  The story is fun, exciting, filled with legends and magic!  She comes away learning the importance of love, respect, and family, and her Mother sees Merida in a new light!  "Our fate lies within us"

way back in May I went to see Dark Shadows, Johnny Depp being in it was of course a big plus...it was fun and fast moving and I liked it lots...a bit campy of course..

tomorrow my bro is bringing Hugo by for me to watch so will try to get back and give my review......

i just saw kramer vs kramer for the first time after not having seen it in decades. what an incredible movie. it's such a quiet movie. the actors have so much work to do. both dustin hoffman and meryl streep have to say so many so-so lines but show so much emotion in their faces. this is a piece for movie actors as opposed to theater actors, because the expressions are key.....i remember having such a different perspective the first time i saw this movie. the times were so much harder on women back then. laws were cruel. it's amazing to me how different a movie can seem to you after a period of time.
