where creative minds can interact

I'm starting a project today. For the next year, I'm going to post one haiku for every day here on this blog. I will do my best to post it on the actual day, but there are times when I'm in places and/or situations where I have no internet access. When that happens, I will still write the haiku but it won't get posted until I can get back here. So, a year from now there will be 365 haiku here. The object of this project is to try and encapsulate the year like haiku condenses and encapsulates a thought or feeling or scene. We'll see if it works. Stay tuned.

Haiku is a Japanese poetry form consisting of a single stanza of 3 lines and only 17 syllables distributed as 5 syllables in the first and third line and 7 syllables in the second line. "Pure" haiku is supposed to reference nature or time but in America it often references just about anything. There are a number of "rules" that are followed and/or broken, too. The general idea, though, is to condense some idea or feeling or scene to an essential essence. If you'd like to learn more, start with Wikipedia's article and go from there.
