Funny you should say that since I contemplated calling it " Hive Mutation", but I thought it might be misrepresenting the truth. ;-)

Most folks reaction to this are identical to yours.  There just isn't any context, so it becomes a true abstract.  I always value that quality in a shot.

quite a difference!  the color shot doesn't even come close!  shades of gray does wonders!

Hah!  Cannery Row, huh?  I'll have to think about that one awhile to see if it's complimentary or not ;-)  Karrie, sometimes a lack of color will do wonders for a shot.  I posted a color shot of this earlier, but it's just not as impressive.  I think it's called "Inside Out".  Check it out and let me know what you think.

Glad you asked, Karrie! It's a black and white close-up shot of a cantaloupe that's been melon-balled.  Sometimes I just get an urge to photograph some very weird things and this happened to be one of them.  Strange, I know, but interesting in it's texture and composition.
