Every time look at this photograph I feel the power of that lake. The textures of all the elements give it a presence. I hope that I never take it for granted.

Coming from a very landlocked North Texas, I was stunned by Lake Superior!! Of course I'd heard Gordon singing about the Fitz and knew she was a mighty body of water, but I'd only seen waves in the Gulf so those were totally unexpected. Literally dropping down off the hill driving into Duluth and seeing that expanse of water - I just wasn't prepared for it to look so endless. We never made it out onto the lake, which I so regret. But I'm thankful to have been able to see both Superior and Lake Michigan. Maybe I'll get back up there some day. The kid will HAVE to graduate, right?

You know, I've seen Lake Superior mirror calm and I've seen it with 30 ft. waves on it. (I actually remember the storm that sank the Edmund Fitzgerald) What a magnificent body of water!

I've kayaked here too! (Only around the Apostle Islands near the south shore.) We saw a big storm the night we arrived and were sooo glad not to see another one during our excursion!

Thanks Sheree! This shot was taken a couple of years back while we were doing the circle tour of Lake Superior. I grew up on the Lake along the north shore about 100 miles south of the border. This is just into Canada near Sleeping Giant Provincial Park. The Lake will always surprise you.

This is AMAZING!!! My youngest daughter went to college in Ashland, WI and I fell in love with the area. I've never been so cold in July in my life!! Still have a soft spot for the place, although the daughter is in Milwaukee now.
