Unfortunately I do not know the name of the artist or the type of wood that was used.  The artistry in this piece is amazing.  I appreciate everyone's comments on it.  Thanks!

okay I am dumbstruck ... I am a person of detail myself and I know how our connection to what we are working on can pull us into it ... this is amazing work for a wood carving ... seriously amazing and my hat is off to the artisan who loved this piece of wood so much so that wood revealed the spirit living inside and inspired so much detail. The Elder ~deep sigh~

This is a well executed wood carving.  It has a fair amount of age to it and was created by a native canadian artisan.  The intensity of life in this piece is extraordinary!

Can you explain to me what medium I am looking at that created this well lived in face?
