Their ability to 'hover' like a hummingbird is amazing!! We're always studying the wildlife! She's enjoying birdwatching so much, we're going to do a formal bird study next year! Thank you for sharing your works!
Veronica is correct! Kestrels are very dear to me. I once had a nest of them in a tree next to the house where I lived in the Shenandoah Valley. I knew they were there for quite awhile and one day they fledged and there were 3 or 4 young kesterels hopping,gliding around in my front yard. I grabbed my camera and took as many shots as I could while the very protective parents dive-bombed me. Quite exciting! The very next day a big thunderstorm blew up and lightning took the tree! I found no casualties, but the family was forced to continue flying practice in the remaining bushes and trees on the property. Very fortunate for all concerned.
