The trick is to dig a circular bed about 8-10 feet across.  You till the outside ring about 2 feet broad and leave the inner  6-8 ft. untilled and preferably in grass or mulch. Also you leave a narrow doorway facing away from the prevailing winds.   You plant your seeds in a double or triple row on the outside ring and be sure to plant a wide variety of heights and sizes.  Go heavy on the tall mammoths and have plenty of the shorter varieties to fill in around the taller stalks. Once the flowers are up and blossoming, they tend to lean on one another, but you may have to twine a couple in here and there.  After it's fully up the top will lean in toward itself and you've got enough space in the middle to sleep at least a couple of people comfortably and you can fit several kids if you're careful. The dog wll likely want to join you too! It makes for a completely awesome sleepout space.  Kids LOVE it and so do lovers!  Have fun!

I actually grew this one last year and was lucky enough to shoot it before the critters tore it up.  I used to grow a sunflower circle and make a shelter out of it.  Pretty much a bunch of fun!

One of my favorite colors and what an amazing close-up ... beautiful. Here, where I live in  CO we have several farmers who grow Sun Flowers every year. Because of how draining they are on the soil the crops are always rotated and it is like a guessing game for our community trying to find where the flowers are growing from year to year ... last year they were just an 1/8 of a mile from home and I was always stopping and taking pictures!
