Well, I think you've certainly perfected the art of natural abstract photography!

Ha!  Helen, you have hit the heart of why I hunt for photographs like this one!  I love the abstractness of the lack of scale.  I tend to shoot a lot of what I call natural abstract photography.  For years it's been an obsession for me and while many people do like it, many more just shake their heads and think of me as a bit eccentric.  I suppose that I am.  This is actually a shot of a split tree that has been downed by lightning and/or wind.  It's been down for many a long year and you're looking at it's grain with lichens beginning to grow on it.  It's maybe a foot or so across in this shot and the tree will continue to molder out there until the earth takes it back.  Glad you like it!

This is nice, Robert. The gradations in colour and tone are wonderful. I also find it interesting that the scale is lost in this photo - we could be looking at some huge, or something quite small.
