Maggie, if you have an iphone, get Hipstamatic !! I can honestly say it has changed my life.  I hadn't taken a 'proper' photo in over 10yrs then got this app on a whim one day and now i take pics every day and look at the world in a totally different way.  Check out the Hipstamatic World fan page on Facebook.  Some of the pics are mindblowing.

Thank you so much for the lovely comments!  I used Hipstamatic app for iphone with no post processing (lens - john s, film - pistil).  This is just how it looked.  The sky really was black with a really strong wind.  I almost blew over!  When the sun came out and lit everything up i nearly melted my phone taking pics. lol

The light-colored buildings against the dark sky, with the splash of kite color--striking!! :-)
