Thanks Jen! I know what you mean. These altars are an interesting art form and they are imbued with such meaning and passion! Too bad you're so far away--I'd suggest a road trip!

I absolutely love this. I'm fascinated by art surrounding altars, particularly those featuring the Virgin Mary - just in terms of the art quality and the passion with which so many are constructed, decorated, etc. This is simply stunning.

Thank you for your kind comments. I love the way that the Mexican Ranchos incorporate this bit of art in the community altars. This one was a tough shot: the light was wrong, there were large biting insects all around, and my uncle was waiting impatiently in the car wondering what the heck I was doing out there. It took a bit of editing to reproduce the image that I saw from the photo that I took. In the end, I wound up liking this image more than all the others that I took that day.
