where creative minds can interact

A photo of a doll that I found at the end of a forest road in a clearing. She's lying where she was dropped probably 40 years ago. She lies there still.

I know that it takes a bit to come around to some ofthese images, but the power they exude is pretty evident and the dichotomy of that energy is always evident. Push/pull is always the conversation surrounding them.

I like your hopeful interpretation. I can see it that way but it is not what occurred to me first. Interesting...

Very true. That's why I try to give her (and other doll shots) a story of hopeful waiting. If you look past the abandonment you can still see the hours, days, and years of play and fun that her owner had with her. Now she's simply caretaking the place where that all happened. As it's not a studio shot, this one is probably my most poignant photograph of a doll. Many people love it, many more are very disturbed by it. Either way it generates some very deep feelings.

The abandoned dolls are particularly disturbing. This one looks like forensic evidence. I find it interesting that such deep reactions can come in response to these dolls. Perhaps it's the disjuncture between the form which has all the roundness and cuteness that mammals are so drawn to and the circumstance of abandonment and neglect. You can know it's inanimate but there's a gut-level reaction that is hard to ignore.
