I cherish every hawk I see on a fenceline or kiting a field. We are so fortunate that we have these wonderful creatures. I love photographing raptors. They tend to be pretty elusive untilyou put your camera away. That's life!
There's a pair that hunt all over our neighborhood that I've been trying to get decent pictures of for a while now. I see them almost every morning and have had a couple of near misses with them in the last couple of weeks. Today they were in the trees across the street for a long time, but would never come out where I could see them well, so I gave up and put the camera away. Of course when I left to run an errand an hour or so before sunset, they were in the next door neighbors trees in plain sight!!!
We have a few such places here in SoFL too, and I am so grateful for them. It's sad to go and see such magnificent birds permanently grounded, sometimes because of abusive people. I'm glad this one will be freed.
This one was shot at a wildlife center that specializes in the rehab of injured raptors. Some they have to give permanent residence to as their injuries are too severe, but many (and most) are treated and released to live out their lives in the wild. This guy was soon to be released back into the northwoods.
