They are apex carnivores and range disruption will often put them in close proximity to humans.  I envy you your mountains.  I've spent time in the west, but never have lived in the big mountains.

good eye ... I know I miss so much but then, when I do see wildlife and am so grateful for the opportunity. I live in the country where the prairie begins along the Front Range of the Rockies. I have seen mountain sheep, wolves, coyotes, fox, Elk, deer, weird four legged animals I can't name, but I have never run into a wild feline (other than barn cats!). We have had some tragic events here between big cats and joggers/hikers.

You bet!  The fact that I saw her at all was pretty amazing.  She was in there all day too and never came out any further than this until after dark.  I was about 8 feet away from her when I shot this and I saw her in my headlights that evenng when I was leaving the area.
