    challenge:

"Well that oughta be easy for a genuine son of a bitch. "

  • Pamela Drake

The "Best Fascist Dictator" quote is, of course, Woody Allen, and I believe the movie was ANNIE HALL.

  • Pamela Drake

It's been over a week, so the Bette Davis challenge is pretty much lost.  The movie was ALL ABOUT EVE, and it's the classic portrait of a grim, bitter, alcoholic former Hollywood star.

  • Pamela Drake

I don't know enough about movie trivia, but I'm throwing my hat in the ring for "a genuine son of a bitch" having been said by Jack Nicholson (it almost sounds like 5 EASY PIECES).

  • wiffledust

hi, pamela. quote the quote you are answering and throw in your answer. you are correct about woody allen and annie hall! ding ding ding! you are incorrect about genuine son of a bitch..that one is still open. you are CORRECT about bette davis. give the girl two out of three!!!

  • wiffledust

here are some more quotes for you guys. please quote the quote in your answer!

"I can't sleep any more. It's too much like death."

"Kid, there's something I ought to tell you. I never shot anybody before. "

    "Shut up and deal... "

  • Helen

I thought I was good at movies, but I've only known one so far, and Pamela beat me to it! Haha! (The Annie Hall one).

  • wiffledust

i think i'll mix up some easier ones with harder ones! :-)

  • Pamela Drake

I THINK "Shut up and deal..." was Shirley MacLaine in THE APARTMENT.

  • wiffledust

and you would be CORRECT, pamela!! :-) do you know the character's name?

  • wiffledust

don't know the who on this, so just guess the movie..

    Cosmo in Moonstruck

  • Pamela Drake

"It doesn't matter if the guy is perfect or the girl is perfect, as long as they are perfect for each other."  I'm going to take a wild guess:  the movie is SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE and the actor is Tom Hanks. (I seldom remember character names unless they are legendary.)

  • Pamela Drake

As to Shirley MacLaine in THE APARTMENT, all I remember is the character is a call girl and the costar is Jack Lemmon, but I don't remember their names.

  • wiffledust

pamela, nope. good guess though! maryrose, wins on cosmo in moonstruck! good for you!! maryrose also wins for get busy living or get busy dying! pamela keep trying. you're close....

It has relied instead upon the testimony of two witnesses, whose evidence has not only been called into serious question on cross-examination, but has been flatly contradicted by the defendant. "

    who said it? what movie?

  • wiffledust

    challenge:

"You and I are such similar creatures Vivian. We both screw people for money. "

Sorry, Lisa, but it is a Frank Capra film...

  • Maryrose Orlans

Lisa, it's another Capra film, the ending is also Christmas Eve.

  • wiffledust

another guess, but is it Mr. Smith Goes to Washington? Jimmy Stewart?

"Why can't that spirit, that warm Christmas spirit, last all year long?"

    Who said it??  What film??

  • Helen

Lisa, is your long Tom Robinson quote from To Kill A Mockingbird?

  • wiffledust

it is, helen!!! quote the quote, and tell us who said it, and then you're a ringy dingy winner! :-)

  • Helen

"To begin with, this case should never have come to trial. The state has not produced one iota of medical evidence that the crime Tom Robinson is charged with ever took place... It has relied instead upon the testimony of two witnesses, whose evidence has not only been called into serious question on cross-examination, but has been flatly contradicted by the defendant. "

  • Helen

Yay! My first one! Ok, here's one from me:

    Challenge:

"This is my right; it is the right of every human being. I choose not the suffocating anesthetic of the suburbs, but the violent jolt of the Capital, that is my choice. The meanest patient, yes, even the very lowest is allowed some say in the matter of her own prescription. Thereby she defines her humanity."

    Who said it? What film?

  • Maryrose Orlans

"Sometimes you gotta say "What the f**k", make your move"

    Miles in "Risky Business"

good girl, maryrose! she won for what the f**k in risky business!

  • Carla "harpy" Eskelsen

I had to look up Helen's. Then I realized why I had tried so hard to forget that wrote... oy...
  • Carla "harpy" Eskelsen

Ohh, well... Here's a challenge, just in case the cats turn up:

"It's like, how much more black could this be? and the answer is none. None more black."
  • Pamela Drake

I dunno about Carla's, but I'm going to toss this one in for people to guess at: "...any guy with a conscience has a right to turn soft.  Am I right, Louise?"

  • Bains

Well, if Thelma di'n't say that I don' know who mighta.

  • Bains

    Challenge. Probably lame. :)

"Looks like I picked a bad day to stop sniffing glue."

  • wiffledust

hi bains! pamela, i'll find carla for ya!

  • Carla "harpy" Eskelsen

Just peekin' in real quick- don't know the glue sniffing quote. Got depressed again over the Virginia Woolf quote, think it's lookin' like folks are comin' back to the game. :-)

I think it helps if we have the same movies in common... ;-)
  • wiffledust

well what's the best way we should do this?? i'm thinkin'

  • Pamela Drake

Mine hasn't been guessed at in a week... when's the cutoff on these, wiffle?

  • wiffledust

no cutoff. play as you like. but if you find yours hasn't been guessed at and it's getting buried, feel free to post it again.

  • wiffledust

I dunno about Carla's, but I'm going to toss this one in for people to guess at: "...any guy with a conscience has a right to turn soft.  Am I right, Louise?"

would it be thelma in thelma and louise?

  • Pamela Drake

Actually, no, Wiffle, but thanks for guessing.  (Hint:  It's sort of a classic movie.  This quote was used in a book about feminism in the days of women's lib, when the movie was recent and controversial.)

  • Pamela Drake

"...any guy with a conscience has a right to turn soft.  Am I right, Louise?"  (Another hint:  It's a guy talking.)  Let me know when you give up, guys...
