We'd like to know the top 10 things you have been listening to in the past few days. Give us some interesting ideas. These are not your all time faves. This is what you're actually listening to now!
This really could go either here or the live talent group. I haven't seen this talented man since last year and kind of forgot about him. Today, I was reminded...in a big way! He's co-written a song that's being used as a theme for the 9/11 anniversary. I posted that on Lisa's site, but was inspired to try to find some of his stuff to share. Sadly, there isn't anything on the first few pages of You Tube with his stuff, so I resorted to going to his MySpace page where I found one of my old favorites posted. If you like country music (and this song ISN'T), go to his MySpace page and listen to the first song. I was shocked! Didn't sound like "our" Jimmy Kelly at all! He sings; he writes; he tours with Chrystal Gayle (among others); he's one of the funniest and nicest guys I know!!
OH! Good one, Gergana!!!! I hadn't seen that one. Isn't it a nice idea? I saw the first one (I THINK it was the first one) a couple of years ago and had forgotten all about it. I've always loved the song and it just seemed so appropriate.
Yes Elle - I love them and the idea of changing the world with music - the only language that does not need translation! If you check their website, they will have a "Playing For Change Day" this September 17!
"Stand by me" was their first video I watched (sent by my close and crazy cousin) and I've never regretted being subscribed for their website :)
One of the sounds I've been enjoying is "Black Joe Lewis and The Honeybears"!! They have a hot, 'James Brown' type sound!! Very funky, very fun!! I'm digging them :-)
I mostly listen in the car . . . play a CD a few times through. The recent stuff is: Otis Taylor: White African; Gil Scott-Heron: The Revolution Will Not Be Televised; and Avalon Blues, A Tribute To the Music of Mississippi John Hurt, by (the infamous) Various Artists. A favorite on the latter disc is Lucinda Williams' Angels Laid Him Away.
this morning i've been listening to a weird mix of lori mckenna, harry belaftone, adele, matthew kahler, ingrid michaelson, vance gilbert, and the wailin' jenny's. i like to mix it up! :-)
I've got some lesser known folks going at the moment. Drew Nelson (from Michigan), Megan Slankard (won the open mic at Eddie's for the second time Monday, from San Francisco), and John Fullbright (the perfect example of an "old soul" from Okemah, Oklahoma, birthplace of Woody Guthrie).
Carsie Blanton's "Buoy." Amazingly sharp and clever lyrics. "He showed up...promising a welcome warmer than a muffin tin........now she lives out in Arizona, lonely as a single----shoe." Just heard about her last weekend, now she's opening for Paul Simon. I have a feeling I may have missed my *intimate venue" window of opportunity.
i'm listening to erick baker, cuz he's going to be co-billing with our beloved matthew kahler on january 27th...i'm going to put up some stuff by him soon. check him out, he's got a great sound. www.erickbaker.com
Josh Ritter's "Live at Iveagh Gardens" double CD set kept me (half) sane during a very long road trip last weekend. I am not sure I have ever heard a musician who sounds so incredibly joyful during every single performance.
cool, margaret, can't go wrong with townes, dave. i'm listening to paul simon's "rhythm of the saints" all the way through. very few albums are so perfect from start to finish!
sarah was one of the first singer songwriters i was listening to back in the day, dave. i remember her version of "this is a man's world". and emily is a new person who has perked my ears!
I am completely in love with Wilco these days. Again. Songs I cannot stop listening to right now: Whole Love Impossible Germany One Sunday Morning I also LOVE a new song by Heartless Bastards ~ Parted Ways And Kathleen Edwards new album Voyager is just amazing. Songs I love from it: Change The Sheets A Soft Place To Land Mint
Been really busy writing and rehearsing our own stuff, lately, but when I'm in the car it's been Paul Simon's newest, "So Beautiful Or So What," for the last three months, nonstop, over and over. It just gets better and better with every listen!
That man is absolute genius incarnate. The pure drop.
it DOES get better each time. do you have a favorite on there? this man is definitely a genius. i love "rewrite". i listen to it over and over again. then i go back to rhythm of the saints. then to graceland. then back to this. amazing!

They covered a bunch of the old CW hits. I like their version of 'For the good times' better than Ray Price.
Def not a CW sound from the old days. Their ballads are ballads in any genre.
Good listen.
