We'd like to know the top 10 things you have been listening to in the past few days. Give us some interesting ideas. These are not your all time faves. This is what you're actually listening to now!
Elle, the song Neil did at MW was his cover of "High And Dry" by Radiohead. Probably my favorite version of it is the one Neil does.
"Gabriel" - who'da thunk it?
YES! Go and listen, folks. http://www.last.fm/music/Neil+Emberg/Rise+and+Follow North &South of the River is another really good one. The interesting thing about the whole CD - the artists were all over the place. Modern technology made it possible for Neil to get some of his favorite (and possibly some of the best in Celtic music) to add to it without having to go to Canada!
Yes!!!! I just found out that Elliott Brood (the Canadian band I mentioned earlier) might be playing at our awesome annual Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival here in Fredericton this summer. Give me some "death country" ukulele!
I'm taking my baby girl for her b'day. That little place I told you about in Bordentown. Should be interesting. Except for passing in the street, I haven't seen him play for 21 years or so. And the FIRST time was more years ago than I care to divulge!!
It was really good, Lisa! PT surrounded himself with some great musicians and they were all good at singing/playing the blues. Plus he's funny.
Very intimate venue - only 36 or so seats and the rest SRO. I already have plans to go back - an old friend and some of HIS friends are playing there next month. Plus it's so close (15 minutes, tops) and I can do it solo without any worries of getting lost (which is my biggest problem with getting over to your neck of the woods, Lisa!).
I would highly recommend seeing PT if you like the blues...or if you're an old Monkees fan!
oh great, elle! so glad you had a great time. what can we do to get you over here by yourself?? hmmmmm.....i would so love you to come hear the brilliant inventions. i know your taste and know how much you'd love it.
ok right now folks i'm listening to:
1. peter mulvey "shirt"
2. rosemary clooney "mambo italiano"
3. the brilliant inventions "i had a dream about your girlfriend"
4. yo yo ma and edgar meyer...don't know the name
5. mary chapin carpenter "come on, come on"
6. cathie ryan, "you and i in the one bed lie"
7. frank sinatra and antonio carlos jobim "the girl from ipanema"
i'm listening to grace pettis, folks. she's so good. she's a young relatively new talent. and if you notice from her name, yes, she is related to pierce pettis. she is his daughter. and she has profound lyrics and a gorgeous voice. i encourage you to check her out!
today, I located one of my fave cd's: "IZ" , a hawaii native with voice and music to soothe any/all. ....I blared it ,outside too, as yard work made it hard to hear !!!
oh that is too funny, jodie!!! i love it!!!! sometimes i blast bizarre stuff just so my neighbors will hear it. i think the last thing i blasted was some children's thing. woo hoo for you, you brave thaaang!!!
Ph, Jodie - IZ's rendition of Over the Rainbow has the ability to reduce me to tears everytime I hear it!! I can't get past the opening rifts without puddling up. What a loss.
Funny, I was thinking today how quiet it's been here and *bam* here you are!! Maybe I should think about winning the lottery...
This is a good music week for me (and could be even better but I'm missing two shows because of prior commitments) - Thursday night there's a reunion of some local musicians who were popular in the Trenton area back in the late 60s, 70s and 80s at the Record Collector in Bordentown. And Saturday is the Fairhill Scottish Games in Elkton, MD with my favorite bagpiper Neil Anderson (and his band, Rathkeltair), Seven Nations (a Celtic based rock band), Brother (world music - guitar, bagpipes, digeridoos - yikes!) and Searson (a Celtic band with a kick-ass sound). Color me excited!!!
Gee, I wish there was a way we could share music here...
LOL Put music on my player? I have a PLAYER?!? Now, I just have to find it.
I thought about jumping on to make some noise, but have been kind of busy. I pop in and out but am not usually on long enough to put two thoughts together.
Now, here you are and I'm off to bed! Nighty-nite!!!
LOL! yep yep you have a music player. its on the left of your page. you can load any songs you want in there!! your page has all kinds of little fun things!!!!
Investigating and experimenting. Not sure if the songs work or not. Not a biggie if they don't - got them from "LaLa" songs, which is closing down as of 5/31. That stinks! Anyone know why??
hi elle! i see the songs...all with z in front of them and no names. i hit play and don't hear them. are they in mp3 formats? something weird may have happened. but i know the players aren't broken. what did you do? i don't know what lala is. hmmmm. do you have songs on your computer that you want to upload? that works the best.
I have NO idea if there are tunes on the computer or not. That would be Jack's department. I'll have to ask him. Technology is NOT my strong suit!! : (
And there was supposed to be a pathetic ::laughing:: in there somewhere (I always forget this site doesn't like the more than/less than signs that I usually use!)
you can look on the computer for anything that ends in .mp3. or just drag stuff out of itunes. do you have itunes??? you will get there, elle! don't give up!
Well, for the video I wanted to share, the "embed" thingy doesn't work. Just keeps saying "loading...". So, if you want to listen to one of the most wonderful vocalists, you'll have to click the link. It's of Jim Malcolm, a very funny Scottish man who used to sing with a band called Old Blind Dogs. His wife, Susie, is singing backup. Very lovely people and Jim will be in the Philly area in September! I can't wait!!
elle,...
1. go to the video of your choice.
2. find the embed code. copy the whole embed code.
3. come back here.
4. paste right here where you type a comment.
5. click "add comment" like always
Lisa,, not sure if it was my problem or that particular video, but when I clicked on "embed", it said "get video embed code" and when I clicked on that, a little box opens (as if the code would appear there) and it said "loading..." but no code ever came up!
Mary Alice, this is wonderful. Caroline Herring is now one of my favorite songwriters. I learned of her about two years ago, and I've been so excited to watch her career rise. She was terrific on on Prairie Home last week!!! Great choice..thanks!
OMG - that little girl is adorable! And what a ham!! The video is so cute - can't wait to see what she's doing when she's 12!!! Thanks for sharing, Dan.
And Lisa, re: your obsession - you and Johnny Depp, eh??? I knew she was a beauty but didn't know she sang, too. She and her man are just the most gorgeous couple!!
oh wow...she's got it. it always amazes me how kids have it from so early on. it doesn't amaze me that they're in tune or can breathe early. what amazes me is the soul and the wisdom they bring to songs they shouldn't know much about ...!

If you can believe it, this guy is also in a "post-hardcore" band called Alexisonfire.
