The King was in his counting house

Waltzing with his money

Sad but determined to get more

He didn't know the answer

To the question in his head but

What else were those dancing lessons for?

The Queen was with her chambermaids

Who were tending to her gowns

And the placing of her crown for all to see

She bemoaned the waste of her fine position

Being Queen to lowly folks like me.

(Chorus)

Sometimes that's the price you give

For climbing to the top

And taking no one else along the way

You get to dance alone

Surrounded by your trappings

Always making sure that others earn their pay

The royal children were with tutors

Learning how to cope

With being rich and lonesome in their rooms

They had everything a kid could want

But knew not how to feel

And were left alone with nothing left to do......

I used to love singing the traditional poem. I like what you've done and I apologize in advance if this question has been asked and answered but do you also write the music for your lyrics?

So sad, but so true and well written!

this is really good partly because it's so true. the kids have nothing to do ...and having something to do is what makes you feel useful and gives you purpose. and that gives you a sense of self worth and enjoyment of life. excellent, rick. may i share it?
