where creative minds can interact

So, friends and neighbors!  I am adventuring in the land of old home renovation and I'm here to tell you that the 'venturin' is extreme at times and always interesting.  I will try to add a few photos every few days or so, but please bear with me as I am still attempting to complete some very essential projects before cold weather sets in.  I may mispost some photos 'cause I'm still a little thick-headed in the techno department, but Here goes.....  Many of you may remember this shot of our new house.  This is "Looks Like Home" and I am quite happy to report that it now is exactly that.  Kathy and I have been in residence here for about a month now and we're finally feeling that the walls are lovin'us.  We call this bobKat's Acre. ;-)

This a view of the kitchen of the our home before we did a single thing to it.  The flooring turned out to be about 2 1/2 inches of any kind of linoleum or peel and stick tile with a lovely layer of asbestos tile which was installed in about 1950.  I will amuse you with further photos of the fun and hijinks which ensued  while we proceeded to strip the floors, smash out the walls and generally gut everything you see here. Plaster and lath are but one of the culprits that made our life a bit more interesting.

Actually, Lisa, I'm merely doing it this way 'cause (as I said earlier) I'm too technologically challenged at times to know any better.  I will attempt to improve. We ARE doing it all ourselves with the help of friends and family.  It is quite the project and as I document more of it I'll get a little more creative with the photos and the prose.  Howdy, Joanne! :-)

This shows the beginning demolition of the dining room wall and doorways.  We closed in the doorways and put in a 6 ft. header for the arch which opened up the entire living space.  We also took out the stub wall that was in the kitchen.  This is all made up of old school "real" 2x4s and we've saved them all for later construction.

So,here is our pending kitchen after the deconstruction of everything.  The profound changes that we decided on made for some strenuous efforts and some interesting discoveries.  This house was built in 1893 and was inhabited by the last owners since 1945.  Change is slow but inevitable.
