Since I Met Maggie

I have a song you might like to listen to about a ghost I met in Colorado, but I'm not sure how to send it to you... I could send the lyric, but the song has a specific sound that makes it something.

This Wild Ride Called Life

I'm sitting in front of a warm, glowing fire. Everyone else in the house - meaning husband, the big, barky dog, and the demanding cat have curled up and fallen asleep. I have reading by the fire on my schedule, but first I wanted to share a few things with family, friends, and readers.

Writers often hear that readers want to peek inside their lives and that their blogs are a good place to do that. To share a little of what's on our minds. Sometimes writers are very, very good about… Continue

Ghost Story

The ghost didn't really feel it ever had much of a chance.

It was an average ghost, of average height and girth. It had an average personality, and an average i.q. It had experienced, yes, quite an average life before being relegated to ghostdom.

It had died on a gurney, whilst being wheeled to a waiting ambulance, after choking on a large chunk of tuna in a sushi restaurant. All the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't squeeze that goddamn piece of fish out of… Continue

OPERATION PHONE HOME

These days, it seems that almost everybody has a friend or family member in the Armed Services, stationed "over there". With the holiday season fast approaching, we can do great good by helping our brave loved ones to be able to get in touch with their folks at home by donating to this very worthy and practical program that the USO runs each year. If you are interested in making a difference for someone who has to spend their holiday season so very very far from home, please go… Continue

Ride This Train

ron Pictures, Images and Photos

As writers we ride many trains over the course of careers. As Deanna, from across the holler at The Life of a Working Writer Mommy can attest, sometimes we just need to switch it up and try something fresh. She never believed she was suited for fiction, but here she is, writing great fiction. Go, Deanna! We never know exactly what we can do or what we'll enjoy until we give it a shot. In writing there are so many different trains…

New Lyric- Here's to Us

'Here's To Us'

coyright 2009 by Rick Reiley

Here's to the people who make things happen

Workers of body and mind

Those who tote barges and lift up bales

And hang their lives on the line

Here's to those who accomplish a little

And those who accomplish a lot

Those who make breakfast and pour morning coffee

And paint lines on the parking lot

Here's to the others, the culprits and misfits

The ones who don't fit at… Continue

"Kindred Stranger"

"Kindred Stranger"

The fire fades to embers as I listen

to the sounds of the forest night.

Crickets create a loud chorus

as owls and the breeze add their

own harmonies.

An injured animal waits for

a pause in the night's song

to let up it's pained complaint,

and as I listen, a chill crawls

up my spine.

If I were to make a sound

to express my feelings right at

this moment, that is what I would

sound like;… Continue
