  • David Indorf

Jonatha Brooke and Sara McLachlan are 2 of the few artists who don't have any weak tracks on their albums.
  • Rick Reiley

    I completely forgot about these:
    1. Krista Detor (sweet mother of Jesus this woman is powerful!)
    2. Krystle Warren (google her version of Eleanor Rigby on Youtube....now....)
    3. Shannon Curtis- (she plays piano and sings love songs)
4.Red Dirt Rangers (Elvis Loved HIs Mama)

    10. Elizabeth Geyer- Beautiful Spiders
  • wiffledust

i don't hardly any of these, rick. i can't wait to explore them! but it's so weird that you put rosemary clooney on here, because i've been listening to alot of her lately. i thought i was the only one!
  • Rick Reiley

Steve Ripley, toured with Dylan in the 80's, invented guitars, engineered a lot of great stuff, Monica Taylor was on Prairie Home Companion a couple years ago, the Rangers just celebraed their 230th anniversary. All are local folks who live less than 20 miles from here. Krista - is from Bloomington Indiana and is currently touerign Europe (saw her in Kansas last month), Krystle Warren....what can I say....her grandma was from around here but she is from Kansas City currently living and playing in Paris France. Google her version of The Girl Is Mine with Hugh Coltman...fun), Andy McKee...stunning guitar virtuoso who played out first house party a couple of years ago....he's on to bigger and better things now....just discovered Fred Eaglesmith via Audrey Auld......a pretty fine singer/songwriter her self.....I'm gonna shut up now.
  • Rick Reiley

I actually do know how to spell most things correctly and can punctuate accurately though my last post indicates I was either drunk or stupid. Good night all.
  • wiffledust

you don't have to shut up! i like knowing about these folks. we have so many talented singer songwriters up here in the northeast corridor. they tend to gravitate here, because it's much easier to tour here than pretty much anywhere else in the country. yet there is a ton of talent that we don't get to see due to the distance. so i can hear about it through folks like you. thanks!
  • stephen dijoseph

well...honestly? an Belgian band named Universe Zero...
    "Falling Rain Dance"

    chek it out!

  • wiffledust

where do you FIND this stuff???? but at least you're honest!!
  • Elle MacNeil

I will have to check these out (although Steely Dan and I are OLD friends! ). I joined because I'm having a dry music period - just can't seem to get into anything I have, so I'm looking for new stuff. Can you believe I almost NEVER play music anymore, Lisa?!? =:O What's wrong with me.

But the last time I did, it was from my Ipod, so here's the top ten from there:

Father and Son - Cat Stevens
    Helpless - CSNY
Charlie & Fred - The Hollies
    Cary - Joni Mitchell
    This Masquerade - Leon Russell
    Overs - Simon & Garfunkel
It Never Entered My Mind - MIles Davis
    The Kid - Buddy Mondlock
Just One Smile - Blood, Sweat & Tears
    Hamp's Hump - Galactic
    Upside Down - Jack Johnson
We're All Alone - Boz Scaggs

Okay, so there's more than 10! ; ) Oh, and David - check out Donald Fagen's solo, Kamakiriad! It's an oldie, but goodie with the same Steely Dan vibes!!!

  • David Indorf

Elle, I've had Kamakiriad for years, and you're right. Very much Steely Dan-esque!
  • Helen

The last time I was listening to music was yesterday while I was doing the dishes & tidying up. My Zune (yes, I have a Zune!) was set to shuffle, so here are a few that played that I can remember:

Elliott Brood - Oh Alberta (a great new-ish Canadian band. The ukulele is back in fashion!)
    Paul Simon - Homeless
Buddy Mondlock - Gabriel (one of my favourite Buddy songs)
Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory soundtrack - I Want It Now
Abraham, Martin & John - Dion & The Belmonts
  • wiffledust

what the heck is a zune, and why am i so out of touch that i don't know what a zune is??? woo hoo! the ukelele??? hahaha! well i love all of paul simon's stuff and buddy's. the will wonka soundtrack??? i love you for confessing that!!!! and now i have to go download abraham, martin, & john...one of my all time faves that i forgot to put on there!!
  • Sheree

I tend to listen to the iPod at home and it stays on shuffle. With over 600 songs I rarely hear a song/artist twice unless I want to. So, here's what's on in the car lately:

    1. Claire Mann and Aaron Jones - Secret Orders
    2. Keith Urban - Defying Gravity
    3. Neil Emberg - Rise And Follow
    4. Lyle Lovett - Anthology
    5. Gordon Lightfoot - Gord's Gold
    6. Jesse Winchester - Anthology
    7. Cold Mountain soundtrack
    8. Five For Fighting - The Battle For Everything
    9. David Ramirez - American Soil
    10. Curious George Soundtrack
  • Helen

Hehe, I LOVE Willy Wonka. I am such a cool nerd it's untrue. Or maybe just a nerd...

The Zune is basically Microsoft's answer to the iPod, and it's totally uncool to even own a Zune, let alone admit to owning it!
  • Elle MacNeil

Oooooo, I will very soon (I hope) be listening to Peter Tork!! (Although we won't tell him that Davy Jones was always my fave!!)

And Buddy did a song called Gabriel?!?! I have to FIND this. A name that has a very special place in my heart!!!

Check out some of the stuff that isn't familiar to you that Sheree is listening to. VERY good music. Neil Emberg is another Canadian to check out (his band, Hadrain's Wall, did some awesome stuff, too - if you can find Waltz for Sydney, a song about the drummer's again grandfather, give it a listen - bu8t make sure you have a hanky ready!!). What was the name of the song he sang for you at mid-winter, Sher?!? It's another one that is great and gives me chicken skin.
  • Helen

Buddy's song Gabriel is on his album called On The Line. It's so wonderful, and I'd definitely recommend getting hold of it if you can!
  • Elle MacNeil

    Thanks Helen!

Almost forgot - Lisa, I actually HAVE a CD by We're About 9!! They opened for GrooveLily one night and I liked them so much I got the CD.

Now, here's a good listen. I was looking for another song and had to give this a listen - quality isn't all that great, but it should still give oyu chicken skin...
